We are taking our 19 month old with us to puerto rico on saturday. Do we need to bring her car seat for the cab ride from the airport to the condo? I'm not sure what the rules are there. Anybody know?

What can I do next?

"# The use of safety belts is mandatory. Buckle up or pay a fine of USD55 per passenger.
# Children 4 to 12 years of age are required to be seated in the back. Children under 4 years of age are required to be placed in a safety seat. Car rentals rent the child seat and are limited in supply. Rental is approximately USD3 to USD4 per day."

The roads and drivers are very unsafe in PR. Definitely take the carseat.

yes take it. The good thing is that you can check it on the plane so you don't have to carry it on board or use it on the plane. And because it is the law that a child in a car seat while in a car the air lines can not charge you for checking it with your other bags. I know all of this cause in Jan. I traveled to Hawaii with my two girls. We checked the cars seats with no charge and then used them in the rental car while on vacation.

Yes you need a carseat if you are going to be driving around in a rent a car... I wouldn't take it if all you needed was roundtrip to/from the airport...

PR driving is not all that bad... it is definitely like driving in the US but then again no where else in the world has driving as organized and friendly as the US... And people in the US actually follow the rules... which is not typical of other countries...

We used a rentacar and I needed a carseat for it... But when we rode in a taxi to Old San Juan we didn't need or use one... I just made sure he sat down and buckled him up and I sat next to him... I would tell him your expectations so that your daughter knows what to do without her carseat and that it is temporary bc she's not at home...

You'll be fine without a carseat...

YES! Take his seat. They drive pretty crazy down there! We took our son last summer and I would have been a wreck if he weren't strapped in!
