Hey Mamas!
I want to buy my lil man a tricycle for his 2nd birthday in two weeks- there are so many mixed reviews on all the ones i see on the Target/Walmart/Toys R Us Sites... i wanted to know your thoughts! Which one is the best/safest?? I would prefer one with the push bar on it while he learns to steer and pedal... Also- my son is on the small side and some of the review comments were that the tricycle was too big for their two year olds... Thanks!
D.

Hi D.!
Both of my kids loved the idea of "riding" a trike before they could actually pedal themselves. We have both a classic Radio Flyer trike and a Radio Flyer Steer and Stroll Deluxe trike. The classic trike hasn't had much wear and tear because my kids have gravitated to the Steer and Stroll. I found that I liked this better too. The trike has a strap so the child won't fall off and at 2 years old, both of my kids could easily reach the pedals. It also has a handle that allows the parent to steer the trike when you go for a ride and the child gets to pedal while you push. Both of my kids were able to pedal on their own much easier with the Steer and Stroll. After so many times of hearing, "Mommy, push me!" I really appreciated the handle so that I didn't have to bend over while I was walking! Either way, a trike is a great gift!

We have a Kettler, Radio Flyer, and plastic Fisher Price tricycles. Kettler is the best, though most expensive. It works well and doesn't tip as easily as the Radio Flyer. Both serve the purpose and do well. The kids love the plastic Fisher Price tricycles because the seats come on and off to adjust how close they are to the pedals. An advantage to those is that we can store them outside under the playground with the other plastic push and ride toys. I have a son that just turned 2 last week and he really likes the Kettler and the Fisher Price trikes, but the Radio Flyer we have is a bit big for him still. A friend's son got the folding Radio Flyer trike for his second birthday and they love it. So any of them are fine I think...those are just some of the pros and cons to them. Also, it takes a while for them to learn to pedal, but until then they like to ride around using their feet on the ground just. :) My son puts his feet on the pedals every once in a while, but then moves them on the ground when he wants to really get somewhere on the bike. Hope this helps some. And happy birthday to your soon to be 2 year old! :)

My cousin has a Radio Flyer. It has a really neat seat on it. The seat is kind of a bucket seat with a back on it. My cousin is 2 1/2 and he still can't use the pedals right, but he can use his feet to scoot along. I know they bought it last year, so I don't have any of the information (model #, etc)

We bought a radio flyer. It was a little more expensive, but we figure it will last through all the kids. It's a neutral color too so it's good for girls or boys. At the time I bought it I was pregnant with my son and we bought it for my niece to ride when she came to visit. My niece has 5 other bikes/tricycles at home, but she loves the radioflyer. She always wants to take it home with her.
