Hi mamas,

My husband and I are traveling to Paris for a week with our 18 month old daughter. Any tips on how to make the trip successful?

What can I do next?

Take me with you to help. ;-) lol
Seriously, take snacks that she likes and is familiar with along with a favorite toy and/or blanket. A little consistancy usually helps my kids do better on trips.

I would take OTC meds for diarrhea and constipation along. The change in the water could upset her system. When we moved from California to Wisconsin my daughter, 9 yrs old at the time, the change in the water caused her to become constipated.
I would also take along some of her favorite DVDs and small toys and blanket. She's really young and the time change and change of secenery, smells, language might just upset her. If she has familar things like her favorite DVDs she will feel more at home.

How picky is she? We have travelled a lot with our son who is now 5 but his fav food is Chinese and pizza which is everywhere:) Seriously, when he was little we would try to stay places with a kitchen so we could cook for him whenever needed. Take tons of whatever cereal she is used to with you. Know that eatting out - esp for dinner - might be impossible. Spend some time at outdoor locations where she can run, the gardens at Versaice, parks, etc. Don't expect her to sit still or be quiet for a museum. My son always could nap in his stroller so we did some museums while he napped.

Stay flexible and try to keep her in her routine with eatting and sleeping and have fun. We usually find people are nicer to us when we travel with babies...now a 5 year old and 12 month old.

Have you already booked a hotel? We stayed at the Marriott Neuilly and loved it. We had a suite with a kitchenette that was very reasonably priced. It was in a nice neighborhood of fine homes and apartments. It was a good walk to the subway, but there was a grocery store just a few blocks away.
Getting around with a stroller will be a pain, as well as seeing the tourist sights. The wait to go up the Eiffel Tower was hours long. I had seen it years ago so I skipped that.

I traveled to Europe this summer with my then 18 month old. Things I did / would do differently: Booked seat for her (good), took her car seat on the flight (with one of those GoGo Kidz strollers) - bad idea. First off, the GoGo Kidz thing doesn't fit down the isle of every plane, and even if it does, it's a tight fit. They you have to struggle with getting the seat attached, etc. After all this, my daughter did not want to stay in her seat at all, and was not comfortable sleeping in it for a long time. So on the way back I got the Cares harness, checked her carseat as luggage, and got an umbrella stroller. The harness allowed her to be buckled in when absolutely necessary, but it also left a lot of room on her seat, so she could lie down, put her feet in my lap, etc. A week is a very short time... it took my daughter about 5 days to get over jetlag. I tried some melatonin... not sure if it had any effect. I took a bunch of her books, so that her night routine would be the similar... next time I'd take 3. She barely ate on the trip, despite my having packed enough food for a week. Lastly: be prepared for a loooong trip. From AZ, it's just a long time to get to Europe. I was hating every moment of the last 5 hours, for sure. The same on the way back. But once you arrive it's all worth it.

OMG woman, Paris??!!! (*!*) That is THE (or most def in the Top10) most romantic places to go!! Lol Seriously , can any family or trusted friend watch her? or split days? I mean, afterall... it teeze Pehh-ree! Lol
Consider the time inside to & from the airport with her & the mumbo-jumbo
procedures & the length of flight when considering what to bring for her. The carry-on bag/s is limited. Look ahead of time into the items that are not allowed at all on the plane & they make you throw it out. There are sizes & limitations restricting items due to 9/11 ect. I suggest for her to be worn out- time for her nap time. But this could be stressful on the waiting time beforehand. Hard to keep in one seat, if lucky, a vacant seat that you can use.
GoodLuck :)

Take her car seat. You can check it on as luggage or take it on the plane
to use if needed. Flight attendant will take from you if need be. Also,
good if you rent a car.
I would buy her a ticket so you have a place to have her sit, lay her down etc. Not just hold her. That can & will get tedious. Plus it gives you more
room.
Take her toys, blankie, favorite items.
Pack in a backpack.
Checking on her stroller, right? Will be nice to have when you are hoofing
it through airport & around the city.

An over night flight that she can sleep through, get an aisle seat so you can walk her up and down the aisle. Take out side to the hotel play area every day or to the fountains or parks.
