Hi ladies, We are going to Florida and I was hoping to get some suggestions on what toys to bring on the plane. We flew last year but now that they are more active and talkative I am not sure they will nap like they did last year. I have b/g twins that are two and 1/2 years old. Thanks!!
A portable DVD player & headphones were a lifesaver for my 2 1/2 year old!
I second the portable DVD player with a carrying case full of their favorite dvd discs. I don't bring the whole jacket, just a small case with a bunch of sleeves and stick all the movies in there. I also recommend, if they like being creative, then you can get the small, travel etch a sketch or doodle (something- can't think of the name right now. That keeps my lil man busy and content. We flew to Florida last month with our 2 and 1/2 year old twins. We did it without a DVD player, since I didn't want to deal with squabbles and I wasn't sure they'd both be able to see it and I didn't want to buy two. So just know that you don't *have* to go that route.
I got each of them a couple new books (they really love Max and Ruby books, so I got a couple of those, plus some others), a notepad, a box of washable crayons (which clean off the tray table with a baby wipe), and stickers. It was all stuff they hadn't seen before, which we pulled out in the middle of the flight whenever they needed a change. Before we left home, I also had them each choose two stuffed animals to have with them on the plane. And we brought lots of snacks. While we were in Florida, we got two cheap new dolls at a Wal-Mart, so they could have something new again for the trip back.

I second, third and fourth the DVD player. It was a life saver. My son watched Curious George DVDs all the way down. He also sleeps most of the time because I try to book flights around his naptime and then keep him awake until we take off. I also give him a little Tylenol (Dr. Recommended) about 15 minutes before we take off to help any earpain. Books, and cars also keep my son quite busy as well. Hope your trip is lots of fun!!
Coloring books + crayons, stickers,no more than a few handheld figurines/dolls for creative play, a stuffed animal for security/familiarity and then the piece de resistance: a dvd player with short episodes (miss spider or whatver tv show they watch). And bring your own snacks!! The flight will go by fast! Good luck.

I flew to Mexico with my son who was 2 years old. The flight was 4 hours. I suggest you invest in a portable DVD player. It will keep your children entertained during the flight. I tried toys, but they kept falling on the floor and the amount of space you have, you can't keep bending down to pick up toys. I was also worried about my son throwing the toys and hitting one of the other passengers.

Assuming you're flying from NY (go Yankees !!!), you only have a short flight, so that's good. But you should bring a fair number of things to entertain them, in case you get stuck waiting at the airport or (worse!)tarmac. I wouldn't bring anything small for them to play with, because you'll end up spending half your time trying to find them on the floor. My 2 year old LOVES books, so what has worked for me in the past is to buy new books for the plane - the interactive ones with lots of flaps are great. The more flaps / tabs the better. Also, a portable DVD player is a lifesaver, as well as the magnetic doodle pads. You can invent lots of games with that too - draw a bunch of dots and ask them to count them, draw a bunch of shapes and ask them to find the ones that match, draw any slowly and make it a contest for them to guess what it is first, etc. You're a teacher, so I'm sure you can come up with lots of ideas with that.
