My son did just fine transisitoning. We just didn't make a big deal out of it and didn't even tell him. just gave him the bottle/cup wth the milk in it and he didn't even bat an eye :) good luck!!!
Hello,
My daughter is just over one year and our Dr. said it is time to start whole milk. Does anyone have any tricks to work for a smooth transition? The only thing I could think of is cooling the formula down in temperature, which I have been doing. She drinks just fine out of a sippy cup already, but will not drink water out of it only formula (Lipil Infamil with iron). Thank you! :)
She usually takes 5 oz. cups, so I did 3 formula and 2 whole milk and you all were right, she didn't even bat an eye! Thanks, I was afraid it would be harder than that.

You can still give warm milk and gradually give cooler milk, but the key is to transition it by mixing formula and milk for a couple weeks. Maybe start out with an 80/20 formula/milk mix and gradually get to 100% milk.
I would suggest not heating the formula and mixing it with the milk. 1/2 formula and 1/2 milk until you can make the transition to whole milk only.
Amanda,
I did half milk/ half formula in my son's cup, and then just gradually backed off in the amount of formula until, after a few weeks, I was adding no formula at all. It was so gradual, that my son didn't even notice.
Good luck!
