I have been thinking about getting my kids a trampoline and just wanted some feedback about what brand to buy- I am not sure which one to get- price range no more than $400 and it will have to be a 12 foot one because of our small yard. It would also be great to know how long yours has lasted. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow- lots of things I didn't think about- our yard is actually not fenced so I am starting to think a tramp is not the best idea.. any other ideas for outside play things for my older boys- ages 7 and 9? We have a swingset but I would like something else to keep them around the house.

When this question was bought up on another board, respondents said to make sure your insurance will cover this and if it does, how much will it go up?

Is your yard fenced in? I think this is termed an 'attractive nuisance' and you could be held responsible if total strangers came and jumped and got hurt.

We have the square one from Sam's Club and before that we had a round one from Sam's Club. This one with the enclosure was just under $400.00. I have had one year old to a 17 year old and have not had any problems. I would completely recomend getting the enclosure. If you maintain it well and remove the trampoline pad in the winter they can last a long time.
Hope that helps!

I'd seriously reconsider. 4 families surrounding my home on the sides and in the back all have them. All 4 families have had broken bones this summer. They just aren't safe.

Every pediatrician would tell you not to get a trampoline. Kids get terrible injuries on them all the time.

K., lots of people say you should get one for your kids. I say, if you watch your kids and have rules about how many can be on at one time, etc. you will be fine. I don't remember what brand we had, but ours lasted a long time. about 10 years. we never covered it or anything during the winters. It rusted through last summer. You might want to check with your insurance person about a possible umbrella policy if you do not have a fenced yard. we never had any problems or injuries in the 10 years and our two boys are six years apart. It was just really important to not let little ones on with the big ones or they could get bounced off. The kids loved it and I am glad we had it for them.

We are currently using the American Deluxe trampoline my parents purchased in the late 80s. The only thing they had replaced is the pad (springs installed wrong).

We were given a jumpking enclosure and have replaced the pads, netting and brackets due to wear from two previous owners.

For safety issues, one thing to consider is a trampoline with a "double" jumping surface which reduces the the "double bounce" effect-I've seen it at a friend's house, she likes it.

Check with insurance, some companies will cancel.

In all the years my siblings and I have jumped on this trampoline and now as my children jump on this trampoline, we have not seen anything more than a scrape (falling off-before enclosure) or a bump and my kids get that from other play as well.

Good luck.

Check with your insurance company before you purchase just to be on the safe side. I am not a big fan of trampoline's because I was injured on one when I was younger. I typically do not allow my kids to jump on them just because I was not doing anything wild when I was on it, I just landed wrong and that was enough to screw up my back and cost my parents a lot money and me a lot of pain for many, many years. That does not happen to everyone though and I realize that. Hopefully your yard is fenced because kids today are a lot bolder than they used to be and I would not put it past them to try your fun new toy out while you are not home.

Happy jumping!

We have had one for 6 years 3 kids and no broken bones--I think though it is dangerous and you need to make rules. Big kids cant jump with little ones and we only let 3 on at a time. Also when you have other kids over--ask their mom if its ok before they jump because it is your house and your fault if someone does get hurt. Our first one was from toysrus i dont know the brand but the enclosure was a string to shut it and it was a pain. We got one 2 months ago from kmart for 200 with the enclosure and it is awesome--it zips to shut. I think it was on sale at the time but they probably arent a lot more then 200.00 now at the end of summer. My last one lasted 6 years and got a tiny hole in the part you jump on but it would have lasted longer if my husband would have taken it down each winter!! Good luck and happy jumping!!

I bought my trampoline at sams club. My boys enjoyed it but the only problem was all the kids in the neighborhood would play on it when we were not home. One neighbor came to tell me that there were 8 kids on it at one time with skateboards. The liability scared me and I took it down. Make sure it has an enclosure. The padding around the sides should be taken off every winter otherwise it looks crappy the next year. Good luck
