My husband and I would like to have another baby, but I am still breastfeeding our son and my period has not yet started back. Is there a way I can track my fertility or know timing as far as getting pregnant while still breastfeeding and not having a period?

What can I do next?

I get pregnant when my second child was 10 months old, and I breastfeed until she was 14 months.....I bought those fertility test but never get to use them.

Wow. I like how people didn't answer your question but instead gave you advice on spacing your kids. The Couple to Couple League has a supplement book about fertility and breastfeeding. I read it, but it seems it is difficult to track. Everyone is different, so you might have some more trackable signs and the book might help. (it is a religiously focused group, so you have to be ready for that, but the info is good I think) good luck with the new addition -how exciting!

My husband's ex-wife got pregnant with son #2 while still breast-feeding 5 month-old son #1 - so yes, it can happen. But I would not want it to - it would be best for your body to have more of a recovery period between babies, and have the kids at least 18 months to 2 years apart.

Yes, you can get pregnant while breastfeeding. In my opinion is easier to get pregnant after 1 year of breatfeeding because by that time you don't feed them as often as in the beginning. You don't have to wait to have a period to get pregnant because you can be ovulating and don't have a period. This happened to me. I wanted my second child be 2 years apart from my first one. Go to this website www.fertilityfriend.com. This website is free (you can get a premium service with a fee) and teaches you to know your body. Basically, you need to know the signs your body gives you when you are going to ovulate. When you are closer to ovulation the mucus of your vagina will be very wet and when the ovulation is very very close the mucus will be like the clear of the egg. That's when you need to schedule a private party with your husband to make baby #2 :) Be patient because is possible. Blessings!

YES!!! you can easily track ovulation while breast feeding, using the BBT (Basal Body Temperature) Method. all you have to do is take your temperature each morning, and you can tell when you ovulate or if you are not ovulating at all. to learn the method go to www.tcoyf.com the letters stand for "taking charge of your fertility" the internet wasn't in full swing when I got pregnant so I read the book (which I HIGHLY recommend) but I was able to track my ovulation to a T. now I didn't do it when I was breast feeding, but I did do it for my first and third, and for my "oops/surprise" I could tell I was pregnant just by taking my temperature, which was a lot cheaper than a pregnancy test! it may take a month to two to learn your cycle but it is very easy to do if you are regular. The book, or the website will teach you how to use the BBT method to successfully get pregnant (or avoid it) if that's what you want. there are other signs of fertility that are also mentioned below and more in the book, but I think the BBT is the easiest, the other signs will just give you the confidence to know that you are on the right track.

Best of Luck! if you have any questions please feel free to message me.

The only way to get pregnant is to be ovulating. It is VERY difficult to track your first ovulation cycle after pregnancy. Almost all of us don't know that we have ovulated until our period starts. So, yes you can get pregnant while breast feeding, but you can't get pregnant if you are not ovulating!! I know that for myself and a couple of my friends that night weaning allowed my body to restart ovulation. After I night weaned my son it took another 3-4 months for ovulation to resume. I had one period then got pregnant the next month!! If you are ready to get pregnant, you might have to cut out a couple feedings or pumpings. Not sure how old your little one is, so this might not be an option for you yet. Good luck!

I believe that your ovulation should work in terms of mechanics, the same way, right? So wouldn't you still be able to track things like cervical mucus? It just doesn't seem that it would be as easy to follow because that runs alongside the release of an egg which comes alongside the period which is ultimately unreliable at this point.

How old is your baby. supposedly breastfeeding is your body's defense against getting pregnant for the first 6 months, but after that is is unreliable. But I have still heard of women getting pregnant in that 6 month period even exclusively breastfeeding...

Sorry is this wasn't much help. Just thought I'd put in my two cents worth!

If you are having no period at all, its not possible to get pregnant. I'd suggest weaning some and then you may start your cycle thus ovulation again. Good luck.

I'd allow your body at least 18 months to get back to normal before imposing another taxing pregnancy on it - especially since you already have one young little one.

I am not sure about tracking, but you can definitely still get pregnant while breastfeeding, even if you have not had a period yet!
