OK everyone here's a question. i have a toyota sienna minivan. I've had it for ten years. Recently i noticed that when i unlock the car and ONLY open the electric sliding glass door my car will automatically lock all the doors within 12 seconds (even if the sliding door is still open). If i open a front seat door in addition to the electric sliding door this does not happen. i noticed this happening in the past 6 mos. Not sure if it has always been the case but seems very weird that i wouldnt notice it until now. Called toyota service and checked toyota forums people saying this is normal or that they havent heard of it. i called toyota customer service to file a complaint. anyone else notice this happens in their sienna minivan? Doesnt seem like its a very safe feature to me. I want to disable the feature.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks. taking it to dealer next week. Not holding my breath as when i asked this question on the phone they said never heard of it and some of these cars are just set up that way.

My Sienna is a 2001 and it doesn't do that. Can you take it to the dealership and have them take a look?

Do you have a menu on your dashboard? I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana, so different minivan, but it has a menu. It displays alerts (like gas almost empty, low oil, etc), but it also has lots of choices and one of them is automatic locking.

Look around and see if that's the case.

We have a Sienna and it doesn't do that.

But my Mom has a Camry and it will automatically lock like that. But its always been that way, the way the car is.
So never leave your car keys in the car.

Take the vehicle in to Toyota and check the electrical system? And maybe the battery in your car remote.
