Toy Kitchen

It's plastic, and took my husband about four hours to put together on Christmas eve after my daughter had gone to bed, but he had fun doing it. He grabbed his ipod, went out to the garage and pulled out his exacto blade kit to shave down all the little lumps where each piece connected to the plastic frame. We bought a package of plastic food and a tiny shopping cart to go with the kitchen so she could "shop" for the groceries, then go to her kitchen and fix us all dinner. A year later she still plays with it but now it's a play ground for her littlest pet shop creatures. They live in all the drawers and it's their "treehouse".

You could try to make one! Seriously! I do home childcare and wish I had done this...I might still in the future. Search online or Pinterest for all the great ones made from old dressers, desks and entertainment centers! So much cuter!

Otherwise, Little tikes is a good brand, stands the test of time!

We've had it for almost 4 years now and it still looks brand new. My daughter plays with it everyday. She is 5 now, and my soon-to-be-2 year old son loves it just as much.

I'd go to craiglist & see what is there

My DD loves kitchens and will play in any kitchen she finds. Most kitchens that are simple are just fine for kids. Ours is a sink/dishwasher piece and a stove/oven piece. Just plastic and nothing fancy, but we like that it's portable.

Other friends have big ones with more drawers and pans that go sizzle. The bigger ones do better where you have a dedicated play room. I say get the one that suits your house size and your child. Friends have one from Costco (?) that they got for something like $30. It needn't be pricey. IKEA has one that is sturdy and has an optional top level. Friend's son has played with it for several years now and 2 kids can share the space.

We got DD some of the IKEA pans and food because they are quality. If you get a shopping cart, consider Little Tykes. It's sturdy and has stood up to my SD sitting on it. Worth the investment.
