Can you moms think of any toys that both a 2 year old boy and an 8 year old boy would play with? Are geotrax too babyish for the 8 year old? I know they would both love Cars 2 and Happy Feet 2 movies. Any other suggestions? I am trying to come up with a gift idea that both will use and appreciate (besides money for their college fund). Thanks!
They will get individual gifts as well - Grandma and Grandpa were just wanting to buy one gift this year. If I can't find something that will work, I will just tell them to do individual I suppose. Thanks.

Play tent, trampoline, or like another poster said, memberships. My MIL got us a membership to the zoo one year and it was a great gift! We went all the time.
I would go with something like a membership for the zoo, museum or YMCA. My mother-in-law buys us a family zoo membership each year, and it is the best gift. We go to the zoo all the time. I can't really think of any toy that an eight year old and a two year old would both enjoy. Most of the eight year olds I know don't play with a lot of toys anymore, except for Lego and Nerf guns, and neither of those are really appropriate for a two year old. We are selling our Geo Trax because my boys haven't touched it in over a year, and my youngest is seven. I suppose you could get a video game system, and then buy seperate age appropriate games for each child.
Building blocks.
Dinosaur figures... they have some great sets out there...any little pieces can be taken out and save until your little one is older.
Imaginext toys are great. They do have smaller pieces, but again, you can take those out.
Gear toys - they have many different sets available, so after the kids set them up, they turn.
Playdoh and playdoh sets.
My SIL got an tball set that is adjustable. It starts out like regular tball and then you can change it to throw the ball up in the air to hit it. Something like that may work for these ages. She got it got for her there and six year old.
Musical instruments
zoo or museum memberships
If you parents are considering something larger - maybe a swing set, a larger sand box (we have a small plastic one and my seven year old and his friends STILL play with that thing). Or if you are ok with it a trampoline (check with your home owners insurance first, our rental property can't have them).
Legos? The 2 yr old would need to be watched due to the small pieces. Or maybe the bigger Legos.
