Tough Cleaning Question

Our baby has thrush so the dr. told us to boil his binkies to sterilize them. Ok so we did that. My husband, who really runs the house, put a pot of binkies on and totally forgot about them. I little while later I walked in to find the pot still boiling and just turned it off without looking in it. After some more time Dave came to me with the most interesting binkie sculpture that he found melted to the bottom of the pot.

The question is this, how do we get the melted plastic off our stainless steel pot?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We boiled it and scrubbed it and it is fine again! Thanks for the suggestions

How important is this pot to you? I honestly feel that there is no way to get the entire residue out of the pot, and being that it is plastic, I personally would not like having an plastic in my food. I would feel that there might be melted plastic in future things I cook.
That's my only advice. I had a plastic grocery bag melt on the outside of a pot, and that wasn't a big issue for me, cos eventually I was able to scrub and scrape most of it off, but had it been a huge glob of plastic INSIDE, I would have just gotten myself another pot. Better safe than sorry!

I also suggest boiling them again to soften/loosen them, thinking it should make them easier to scrape off.

Hi C C,

Throw the pot out and buy another one.

Good luck. D.

I have to say...my husband and I had a good chuckle about this, because it is sooo totally something I would do!! He is a chef so he knows some stuff about pots. He says to first try freezing it, you may be able to separate your "art project" from the bottom. If that doesn't work, try reheating it and then see if it separates. I would personally toss it and buy a new one! You're gonna have to shop for new pacifiers anyway, right? Good luck!!

not related to your question, but I dealt with thrush with my baby -- the best best best treatment is to purchase freeze dried acidopholous pills from GNC or other health store, take about 1/4 teaspon (crack the gel pill and get out the acidopholous), and rub it directly onto the areas affected if your baby will let you. If not, mix a bit with his formula and rub. Gets rid of it in one or two doses! You can do it once or twice a day. Thrush is the overgrowth of yeast, and acidopholous is a natural good flora that checks it.

It also works on mom, if you get it on you nipples from nursing.

Make sure you don't have it! I think my baby got it from me, I get it under my breasts, particularly during the summer. Tough thing to get rid of, but this is the best trick I found, no messing with antibiotics, etc.

Hi C C,

I would try putting water in the pan and boiling it. It should be hot enough for you to work the plastic off of the pan.
