I have a four year old son who likes to touch his private parts. I understand
there is a natural curiosity kids have about their bodies, but recently he has been getting erections both from touching and not touching. Is this normal? It sometimes happens at school and I am afraid he will get teased or in trouble. Should I take him to the doctor?
I think this is completely normal and does not warrant a trip to the doctor. I would talk to your son. Explain to him that there is nothing wrong with exploring his own body, but that kind of touching is something he should do in private, not public where other people can see.
It's perfectly normal for little boys to get erections long before they reach puberty. Just make sure he understands that if he wants to touch his private parts, that's fine, but he needs to do so in private.
