Hi All,
Has anyone tried the Topsy-Turvey Tomato Planter & if so was it successful & would you recommend it?
Thank you for your responses :)
Blessings to all,

I see tons of them in our community(on the decks and porches).Looks like there are a lot of tomatoes on them too so I guess they work:) I am thinking about getting one for next summer.
My Mom had 2 and was disappointed. They were continually drying out and she couldn't stay on top of watering them 2 or 3 times per day. On the other hand, I have seen some hanging in a shaded yard (my Mom's yard has no trees) and they seem to be thriving. Don't know how they are watering, but the plants like it.
I have not tried this but live in an apartment and would like to know if it works. You might check with Consumer magazine and see if this is something that they have tested. On the advertisements they make everything so easy and wonderful when in actuality it is more difficult to use or just flat out does not work the way the advertisement suggests.
Might be a little late in the season to start one, but maybe not. I asked my husband (of 33 yrs) to get me one for 'Mother's Day' and he forgot. He did get me a wind chime for Father's Day, tho! LOL Guess I owe him something . . .

I have not tried it, but know someone who has. She loved it, but apparently they can only be used once. She made her own upside-down planter that can be used repeatedly, and loves it.
I have one and it is great! You have to water it everyday and make sure you add dirt every so often. Just check and see if it is low on dirt and add some. My mother-in-law had one and they did not add the dirt and their tomatos did not do good at all. I also have bell peppers in another one.
Good Luck!
My grandfather has one and loves it. It has really worked well for him!! Good luck!!
yes we have. and no i dont recommend it... it didnt put out many tomatoes and i think it was because of lack of space for the roots. we had much better luck going back to putting them in the ground... a little late to plant them now tho
Absolutley! We have one with about 35 blooms on it and 2 green tomatoes. It will need a lot of TLC but it's totally worth it.
It definitely works, but beware. The birds like to build their nest in the top. If they succeed, your tomato plant will die. I would suggest putting a covering of chicken wire or mesh on top so the birds can't build.
I haven't tried the Topsy-Turvy but my husband did plant some upside down tomatoes using a five gallon bucket. It works great. We planted grape tomatoes and regular sized ones. None of the regular ones are ripe yet but the plants are full of nice big green ones. Several of the grape tomatoes have ripened and they were delicious. I hope this helps you. Happy growing.
It has worked well for me! Just make sure you water it every day (dries out easily) and put some miracle grow fertilizer on it every week or so.
