Top-loader Washer Recommendations Under $700? - Roseville,CA

Our washer just died and I need to find a replacement on a fairly tight budget. The reviews for the Maytag Bravos are fantastic, but the $700+ price tag is an ouch, considering we'd also replace our dryer for a matching set. Anyone have a great recent model of washer that stands up to heavy/almost daily use? Our Kenmore only made it nine years, so we're open to other brands.

(Just interested in top loaders. Not interested in front loaders for a variety of reasons, including death risk to kids, mold problems, bending to put clothes in/out.)

So What Happened?

Just ordered some less expensive Maytag models that got great reviews on multiple sites online. Interesting thing was that I ended up ordering them online! The local Home Depot store will match competitor's prices but not their own online sales prices! Crazy. I had hoped to give our local store business and help preserve jobs, but no such luck.

I had a very low end Kenmore (Sears). I used it for 6 years (paid $350 or so) and then just sold it for $200. I was doing about 10 loads a week and no problems. I loved it. High capacity and heavy duty. No fancy electronics though. Got well more than $350 worth from it and $200 out the door.

Are you near the Sears Outlet in Hayward? If so, it's worth it to take a look. They often have substantial discounts on appliances that are aesthetically damaged (scratch, dent). We got a higher end dryer for several hundred dollars less than the a basic model at the sears store.

we have a fairly simple matching maytag set that i use the heck out of and in more than 3 years i have not managed to hurt. the washer goes from mini to super loads and i avoided computerized push button screens because i did not want that much technology on my washer and dryer. the set was under $700. we purchased ours at home depot only because of a need and a great sale happening at the same time.

I'm not sure where you live but you may want to check with your city and see if you get a rebate for going with a more energy efficient washer or one that uses less water. Same with your energy company provider.

I have the Cabrio . I love it but it was pricey. I got it from Best Buy on their no interest for 18 months deal and it wasnt' so bad paying a bit at a time.

I love my front load washer. I bought it from Sears on clearance for $550. If you look for their scratch and dings pile you can usually get an extra amount off the price. Front loads also say a ton of water and do wonders.

I have a 17 year old Maytag top-loading washing machine that is still working great, never has problems or needs repairs. It was only about $350 in 1992. That is one purchase I will not ever regret!
