Whats the best tooth brush for an 8 month old with 8 teeth? We currently use the one you slip on your finger with the small, rubber bristles. Is that enough? Or should we be using a bigger one?

What can I do next?

Hello!

My son is 9 months old with 7 teeth and we use this toothbrush from RaZbaby. It is soft and he likes it and it's easy for both of us to handle (he likes to chew on it AKA "self-brush").

I would ask a pediatric dentist. Since he already has 8 teeth, you might want to ask when they recommend a first visit.

but personally, i do think you need more than just the one you slip on your finger.

WOW! Eight teeth, that is great but I am sure the pain your LOL has experienced, has melted your heart. My 14 month old has about 11 teeth. About 3 weeks ago, I started with an electric toothbrush I purchased at Wal-Mart. I felt she can receive a better cleaning with this plus with the molars she has gotten, this will work better.

Problem for your LOL may be that the toothbrush may be a little too big for an 8 month old. I got it in the firetruck design with lights and whistles so she can somewhat be distracted with it. She is sometimes not to fond of brushing her teeth. At times, she fights it! Use the same toothpaste, but see if you can find a smaller toothbrush. I have seen smaller electrical ones at Target.

Good luck!

that should be fine for your baby right now. if you do want a bigger brush then get a soft bristled toddler tooth brush and some non floride training tooth paste (unless you prefer to just use water or the tooth and gum cleaner)... i used the finger brush untill my daughter was about 10 months then i bought a tooth brush for her. good luck!

I just bought a toothbrush at Target yesterday for my 10 mo old (4+ teeth). I was using the rubber finger thing and for the longest time, she loved it, but all of the sudden (coincidentally with the arrival of top teeth) she wouldn't let me do it and wanted to do it herself! Well, that's all fine and dandy, but I didn't want her to choke on the little rubber thing. The store had a couple brushes with the 0-2yr/6mo-2yr age rating, so I just picked one. It is small, short, and a bumpy handle so it's easy for her to hold. I let her *play* with it and then I help and sneak in a few *actual* brushings here and there.

I think at this age, more important than which brush, is do you do it every night before bed (after food/bottle/feeding)? Water is also important throughout the day and after meals to wash away the food particles and germs.
