My Oldest daughter age 5 1/2 has her first loose tooth. I am looking for great tooth fairy ideas, poems, etc to make this fun! And with inflation ;) what is the going rate for the first tooth and each tooth after that?

So What Happened?

I am SO GLAD I asked when I did! My daughter's tooth feel out at her aunt's house the next morning! So that night we put the tooth in a special bag (one you get for wedding treats) and placed it under her pillow! The next morning my daughter and her cousin woke up to fairy dust (glitter) on the window seal and leading to her pillow, a pile of dust under her pillow and the pouch with the tooth gone and a letter from the tooth fairy saying she found her tooth is satisfactory condition and she left a gold dollar under her pillow! My daughter was so thrilled! and they spent 2 hours looking for all the fairy dust. My neice said she forgot to look when she lost her teeth so she was going to look when she went home that night!

THANKS MAMMAS!!!

search the web. I found a tooth fairy poem that I printed out and put on my son's door when he lost his first tooth.

Suggestion - hang the tooth in a pretty fabric bag (you can get them in the bridal section of Wal-Mart) on the child's door. I made the mistake of putting the tooth under his pillow, and nearly woke him up when I went to do the 'exchange' of tooth for money.

I left my daughter .50
In different pieces of change and she loved counting it all out to see how much she had . . . She was thrilled!
she is now 8yrs old and I never give her more than a dollar. She is still thrilled each time. Sometimes I think about giving her more money but decided against it. Because once I give her more than she'll expect that or more

Hey T.,

When I was little, I was afraid the tooth fairy wasn't real (I'm sure someone at school told me that). So my dad gave me an envelope and told me to decorate it. Then we put my tooth in it, licked the flap, and sealed it tight. The next morning my tooth was gone and the sealed envelope was filled with coins. So I knew the tooth fairy had to be real because how could she get my tooth out and the coins in without opening the envelope? I guess dad used the old boiling water and using the steam to open the envelope trick. I just thought it was such a creative idea to kind of help your children continue to believe. I know I'll do that with my children once their teeth start falling out. Just thought that might be cute for daughter- she will think it's so neat that the envelope was never opened.

Take care of yourself and those sweet babies!

The Tooth Fairy left my son $1.00. He was happy with that. Whatever the TF leaves the first time, she will expect every time. So will the other kids. Keep that in mind.

How exciting for your daughter! My two oldest children 8 and 10 just recently figured out that we are the tooth fairy so have fun! I told them not to tell the 4 year old! What I have done was get those little jewelry ziplock bags found in craft stores and I would put their tooth in it and write their name on it and the date. That way the tooth fairy won't get their teeth confused with other kids teeth! Wink! If you want to put it in a decorative bag you can, but mine just loved keeping it under their pillow. We give $5 a tooth but that is us. Choose whatever monetary value is best for you. One night I forgot and when they woke up their tooth was still there, so I told them to keep it there during the day so it won't get lost and sometime during the day while they were playing, the tooth fairy came because she had a busy night and can come during the day sometimes and left the money! Just leave yourself a note somewhere to remind yourself and if they ask why you left a note for yourself come up with something creative like you were reminding daddy so that if he heard anything in the night he would remember it was the tooth fairy! My second oldest (8) found out because he had just fallen asleep one night and I went in there to cover him and kiss him goodnight and I put the money under his pillow and he wanted to show me his tooth "one more time" and there was his money instead! He is also the one who swallowed his first 2 teeth and we had the tooth fairy leave him a note saying that although he swallowed his tooth, the tooth fairy still knew that he lost it and that he would still get his money. Have fun!

No ideas here. My son got some money for his first tooth. He almost teared up and said he would rather have his tooth back! I was not expecting that response. We left the money under the pillow the next night to exchange for his tooth.

We give gold dollar coins sometimes. Whatever you choose, keep in mind that at some point your child may lose 2 or 3 at the same time!

Oh, I wish I had some really great tooth fairy ideas.... but I don't... how sad even though I have 4 plus children... as a matter of fact the tooth fairy forgot to come for my 9 year old son TWICE before he left for his father's house for the summer.... just wait til that happens to you... "mommy, the tooth fairy didn't come last night!"..... UGH!!!

The one thing that we do like to do with our children, is to get those Susan B Anthony dollar coins that are colored gold, so they look like gold dollar coins. It makes getting something from the tooth fairy "special" because it isn't just a dollar bill... oh boy, you should have heard one of the kids one morning when they woke up after the tooth fairy had come and all I had that night was a dollar bill....and they said..... "look mom, all I got was a PAPER dollar!" I just about died.... I was like,...... I wish "I" had a PAPER dollar!!!! So, after you start giving the coins... it's hard to go back to paper. But it can start something creative like coin collecting. This has actually led us to coin collections for all of my children. Over the years we've bought coins and coin books. Recently we bought my stepson a metal detector. Just a few days ago my husband found a 1905 Barber Quarter 25 feet from the front of our house! About 4 inches under the ground.... and you know what? It is worth $160!

So, I am sure that this is more than you wanted to hear but I wanted to share with you the joy that came to us just by way of the tooth fairy. All my children are now coin collectors and it is a hobby that we enjoy together.

You can go to any bank to ask for the "gold" dollars and they'll give them to you.

Good luck and enjoy you new position in life, Mrs. Tooth Fairy!!!

There is actually a tooth fairy book that we received as a present called "Twinkle the Tooth Fairy" (the link to the book on Amazon is below). We haven't had a chance to use it yet. In a little compartment on the front cover it has a purple velvet pouch for you to put the tooth and money in. You are supposed to read the story the night that you are putting the tooth under the pillow.

We put the tooth in a ziplock bag under their pillow. Sometimes I slip the money in before they even fall asleep by asking to see the tooth when they are getting drousy and not showing them the bag when I slip it back under their pillow. The tooth fairy at our house gives $2 a tooth. It was a $1 with my older kids...but inflation struck the tooth fairy!

I haven't gotten to the tooth fairy stage yet with my daughter, but I've heard others talk about it, and my only suggestion is to not go overboard. I think $5.00 per tooth is a little ridiculous...there are going to be a lot of teeth lost from that little mouth over time! I'd say about $1.00 is sufficient, but maybe you could give it to her in the form of a silver or gold dollar and maybe buy some tulle and ribbon to package it in an interesting way.

Why not make it a sort of scavanger hunt? That way it would not cost you so very much money and it would be something the child would never forget. As for something to put the tooth in, cut out a tooth in the general shape of a tooth (and it does not have to be perfect for a child thank god) and make a slit to insert the tooth. Then glue the two sides together for putting under the pillow. Put in a five or in my instance since i dont have much money at all, a couple of dollars. Then get from one of the dollar stores a coloring book and crayons and some of the little jewelry or soldiers or whatever according to the child's sex. Maybe pick up a bag of candy.put up arrows and show the way from one place to another to find the things and hide them for the child to find and only hide them as well as the child is able to find things.that should make it a great time for everyone.

When I was little, I loved more than anything getting lots of COINS from the tooth fairy. So, to help with inflation, you could give her 20 nickels or 100 pennies or something like that...? You might put them in some decorative design or something...?

Good luck!

With my son, when he first got money he was so disappointed. He thought the tooth fairy brought toys.

So what we did was start saving up kids' meal toys (for the meals, we'd just say we didn't get a kid's meal this time because we had a coupon...he knew all about coupons) or sending for the toys from cereal box offers. We saved them in a hiding place and he got small toys each time and loved it.

We gave our daughter 5 "gold" dollar coins for the first and $1 for each after.

When the dentist told us that my girls would need to have some teeth pulled in preperation for braces we told them that if they could wiggle it out before the next denitst appt we would give then $8 for each tooth(much cheaper then the $80 the dentist charged). Of course they still wanted the tooth back for the tooth fairy.

Now as for my oldest girl when it came time to tell them information regarding the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny and Santa, mine was more shocked about the tooth fairy than any of the others! (By the way after my daughter got stitches out we also invented the Stitch Fairy)

I don't know how to make it fun but our son lost his first tooth a couple months ago. We decided to get one of the 'gold' Presidential dollar coins for his first tooth and will probably go with a 50-cent piece for the rest of them. We also thought about increasing the price when the molars start coming out ... they just seem so painful and neither of us can remember if they actually hurt or not.

My daughter was given a tooth fairy bank as a baby gift. It's such a great idea. I'm not sure where the person got it but you could search online. It's a bank in the shape of a tooth and around it it has slots where the tooth fairy puts their lost tooth. The slots are numbered 1-20 (so you put the first tooth lost in slot 1, second one in slot 2, etc...) The money that she gets from each tooth is stored in the bank. On the underneath side, you can write about each tooth, what tooth it was and when it was lost etc...it's a great keepsake and my daughter loves it.

Just go to the library to check out some different books about the tooth fairy.

As far as the reward..........it doesn't have to be money. It could be a ticket to go see a movie, a gift certificate to an ice cream parlor, or donut shop. Young children think any shiny coin is great. My daughter just lost a tooth, and the tooth fairy left her a quarter. She was thrilled for the moment, but that quarter is on my kitchen table now. She actually wanted to keep her tooth. I had a little breath mint tin that was empty, so we put it in there. She calls it her "toothcase". I think it absolutely obnoxious when I hear other children telling their friends that they got $5 or $10 from the tooth fairy. You do not want to raise a child that is so focused on money that they don't appreciate simple gifts.

Hey T.!
You got lots of good info! I too, did the fairy dust on the window seal and bed (glitter) after one of the other kids in my son's class lost a tooth & excitedly told about the fairy dust! He did ask how the fairy got in the window in the winter...don't remember what I said! But it seemed to work.

My son is very bright and wants to be a cardiac surgeon (he is 12 and reads every medical book he can get his hands on!) He wrote a letter to the tooth fairy asking what her name was, what they did with the teeth, and all kinds of questions. I spent quite a few hours on line researching fairies that night to come up with an acceptible fairy name and what they did with the teeth. I think I said something like they build their roads, buildings, etc with the pretty clean white ones and throw the others out. Can't remember the name of our fairy but have the letter saved somewhere (I am a CREATIVE MEMORIES HOPEFUL with everything saved for when I can find the time!)

Enjoy these fun times!!!!

I love the idea of the fairy dust! A friend of mine does this as well and her kids get so excited. She just sprinkles a glitter trail from a window pane to her child's pillow. In a child's mind, there must really be a tooth fairy if fairy dust is left behind! This would mean vacuuming afterwards but it would be so worth it just to see their excited little faces!
