Too Much Fish and Pregnancy

I am 11 weeks pregnant and I sort of know about the whole fish thing. I know that you need to limit your fish intake while pregnant. I think I read somewhere that you should have no more than 12 ounces a week.
The other day I had Tuna. It was probably 6 ounces worth. Then last night we ate a few shrimp and a few fish sticks. I am kind of worried that I may have eaten too much fish. Does anyone know how much is too much? And what could happen if I did eat too much?

What can I do next?

I'm sure the best idea would be to contact your doctor or the health nurse @ your dr's office. I know the issue is the mercury in fish. I honestly didn't put it togther that canned tuna might be a problem....duh
Well I ate tuna almost daily thru 3 babies, and they are all just fine. This was one of the things I craved most. My doctor said it may have been due to my low iron, the cravings for tuna, that is.
Anyway, better safe than having to worry that you may not have done the right thing...there are SO many pressures when your pregnant, you don't need to add any to the list...
Good Luck & congrats.....L.

Hi A., Try calling this line. It was referred to me by Kaiser when I was pregnant with my first child. I had it in my cell phone in case I had a hard-pressed question. It's been awhile, but I believe it's run by a university in Southern California and it is awesome - free and anonymous and all information given is based on recent research and findings. You can call about anything regarding your pregnancy, including the fish info. Here it is and good luck!

I am 32 weeks pregnant today.. *L* I talked to my Dr. about my craving of fish at one of my eariler appointments and he told me you want to try and stay away from larger white fish, Tuna is okay as long as you can find a brand that wasn't caught off the coast of Japan, (those fish have a higher mercury content) so far I have had a hard time with this, since the one brand that lists where it was caught (Chicken of the Sea) says it was caught near Thailand... He says you can still eat fish up to 3 times a week, and that Salamon and Bass are the best to eat as far as low Mercury content... he didn't say anything about shrimp or crab being bad for you.. just warned me not to eat it 3 times a day...

I hope this helps!!
