Go to the doctor every time they are swollen to make a record of it. Then get them out.

Talk to your doc. My daughter had tonsillitis like 6 times. I love my drs, but they can't keep track of and remember everything. The last time I took her in, they confirmed the diagnosis, and wrote me another Rx, I asked "how many times does this have to happen before we take them out?" They went back and looked at her chart, and said let's get you to an ENT and see what they say. And they took them out. And she's never been sick since (6 years ago).

When my son was 3 1/2 his tonsils swelled up till they were almost touching each other across his throat. We tried a round of steroids to shrink them, but they swelled right back up as soon as he was off them again. He had no signs of infection. Since they were interfering with eating, swallowing and sleeping, we had them and his adenoids out and we're glad we did.

Okay, he's been having this swollen tonsils for 16 months, every 4 months?! Yeah you have to go to a doctor and probably get them taken out. He may act like nothings wrong but it might swell seriously one time and choke him or suffocate him or something.

You should take him to the Dr each time he has swollen tonsils. They need to keep a record of how often he has an active infection in his throat. At some point they will probably remove the tonsils and then your little boy will feel much much much better!

if he is not having fever now and acts like nothing bothers him - are his tonsils swollen now? Or is this a period when his tonsils are fine? If he's fine now - no worries. But next time he gets swollen tonsils and won't eat be sure to take him to his ped!

Good Luck.
