My five year old daughter had this procedure 3 days ago. Her voice has changed as well as the way she says certain words; is this normal? I understand that her throat is swollen, but I've heard of cases where the change is permanent??? Has anyone experienced this sypmtom with their kids? Also, she is complaining of pain in neck and temples; is this normal? I will call the doc tomorrow, but advice and experience from other moms puts my heart at peace. Thanks!!!!

What can I do next?

So sorry for her! Not sure about the changes in voice and pronunciation but when I had mine out several places hurt- not just my throat. It disrupted all my sinuses and certain foods (applesauce) made my ears feel like they were going to explode. So I am thinking her neck and temples could just be sinus related. Check with the dr. to be sure. I hope she feels better soon!

When my daughter had hers out she came home with prescribed pain killer. Is your pain killer not working for your child then you need to call the doctor's emergency line since you heal better when you are not hurting. Voice changes you hear now are due to swelling. Afterward her speech should be clearer and her voice perhaps slightly different but we did not notice much. The main symptom for deciding on the surgery was her LOUD snoring and frequent trips to the doctor to check for strep throat that she did not have, just a sore throat from breathing through her mouth all night. The main thing to watch out for according to our surgeon was bleeding about 7-10 days after surgery. The "tonsil beds" (the place where they were removed) get a scab on them and when the scab falls off sometimes there is severe bleeding. Minor bleeding was not a problem as long as it stopped. She had some minor bleeding the first day home (while scabs were still forming) but after that no complications. The VERY FIRST day home she no longer snored. I hope your daughter feels better soon.

Before my son had his tonsils/adenoids out, he had difficulty breathing through his nose and swallowing.
He always sounded stuffed up.
After the operation, he did sound different but it sounded more normal to me because he could finally get air through his nose and he didn't have huge fleshy marbles blocking the back of his throat anymore.
And he didn't snore anymore when he slept.
Is your daughter drinking enough?
I tend to get temple headaches when I'm dehydrated.

Yup...normal. Our son had his out over Christmas break...and I do remember his voice changing...kinda weirded me out ;). I do remember him saying his neck hurt a lot. Hope she feels better soon! It was definitely not fun for our little guy!
