Tonsilitis--keep Home on TAKS Day?

My daughter appears to have tonsilitis, based on the swelling in her throat when I look with a flashlight. It's Monday night, and the TAKS is on Tuesday. She's in 6th. Do I need to keep her home in the morning, or should I send her to school & make a doctor's appointment?

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I'd keep her home as well.

I had a parent bring their kid to school one day when they weren't 100% - I wish they'd kept him home and he did not do near as well as he could have.

Good luck! I hope she feels better soon!

I personally would keep her home and make a Dr.'s appointment. They do have a TAKS makeup day. But, to be forsure call her school office about 30 minutes before she is to be there. If she is sick she won't do good on the test and you can't retake it.

I would let her stay home and make up the test when she gets better.
She will not be able to perform her best on the test with a painful throat!
I'm sure she's very exhausted from the pain as well so I'm sure she'll do much better on her test when she's 100% better.

It might be strep--better take her to the doctor. Strep is highly contagious and can be dangerous. If this happens more than 3-4 times a year, you need to see an ENT to consider a tonsillectomy/adnoidectomy. My child had this done at age 3 after a year of non-stop strep throat. She's almost 9 now, and hasn't had it again since.
