My mom was so tongue tied that they had to clip the skin under her tongue to correct it. They did it when she was toddler, so it must have posed a problem somehow. My mother still has a speech impediment though.
hello all.
I had just learned at my 5 year olds check up that he is a little what they call(tongue tied)anyways, she ask us if we had ever had someone tell us this and we said no never and she said that he speaks well and can stick his tongue out fine....but,that that might have been the reason we had some problems with eating and he was I remember a little bit speach delayed.....I always thought he had sensory problems but who knows maybe that is kinda the same thing is a way. she said his has streched and he is fine now..but just wanted to ask any other moms out there that dealt with this when their child was little what kind of eating issues if any did they have,be detailed I want to see if this was the same I had such a hard time as did he....now he eats me out of the home lol but back then so hard.???????

my youngest just had surgery because he was speech delayed and his tie was very tight he could not stick his tongue out or lift it up affecting certain sounds. He also had eating issues although he nursed like a champ so it wasn't caught until now. I thought it was sensory too but since he got fixed last week he has been eating everything! I think part of his issue with eating foods of certain textures was that things would get caught on the roof of his mouth and he could not lift his tongue to get it down. This past wed was the first time he ate a sandwich before that he picked the meat off the bread because the bread would get stuck.
My sister in law has 5 kids and one on the way. All 5 are/were tongue tied. Three have to have surgery to snip it. Her husband has two kid from a previous marriage and they were both tongues has was her husband and his siblings. None of her kids have a problem with eating but all of them are speech delayed.
Our son was tongue tied and his was clipped when he had his tubes put in and adnoids taken out. I definitely made a difference with his speech and I believe that his speech was delayed due to this problem. He still ended up with speech help in school for several years.
If you are really concerned, get a second opinion either from a speech therapist or ask your local school district for assistance. I'm sure everything will be great and sounds like your son is happy and healthy! One of my younger sisters was tongue tied and was treated by a speech pathologist (back when she was 3 to 6 years old) - she "outgrew" whatever was physically different and is just terrific. Good luck!
One of my brothers was tongue tied. He had difficulty pronouncing some words. I think he was around 2 or 3 when the doctor clipped it because of concern over speech. If I remember correctly his speech became more clear after that. He isn't "tongue tied" now. lol
I don't remember him having any eating issues.
my daughter, shes 12 today, is tongue tied. they told me the same thing. that it comes out far enough etc... the only problems she had is she couldnt breastfeed right. didnt know she was tt at the time. i asked her recently if she ever wanted to get it cut and she said no. but my husband is/was tongue tied. and when he came of age he didnt feel like he could "kiss" right. sooooo hum. ive kept this in the back of my mind with my daughter. i know there will a time she starts kissing. oh when shes 30. lol. but i worry that it will cause problems. my husband cut his own. didnt really want to say that, but i felt it could be important to you. so if you need to talk more please let me know.
My youngest son was tongue tied so we had his clipped when he was about 9 months old by the same ENT that took care of the tubes in his ears. He instantly discovered he could stick out his tongue and make everybody laugh after that. He has never had any issues eating - before or after. Our specialist told us the only areas that would be affected by being tongue tied are sticking out your tongue and possible speech, depending on the severity.
