"Toilet Training in Less than a Day"

My daughter is 23 months old. I think she is ready to be potty trained. My question is: has anyone used the method described in the book "Toilet training in less than a day". If you did, did it work for you? My mother in law swears by it, but I want to hear opinions from other moms who used it more recently. I would appreciate any input on that. Thanks a lot.

What can I do next?

I was so committed to this and excited about the process that I told all my neighbors and friends. Then after living through the nightmare of the experience I had to tell them all that it didn't work at all. I understand that it works for some people, but it didn't for us. That was the first day my son saw me cry.

My experience with "the memories of my parents" (and even those of people who have 8 year olds) is that they forget the bad experiences and only remember the good.

I read the book and used the techniques loosely -- meaning I didn't stick to all the advice, but utilized most of the techniques. It worked fantastic! My son was potty trained in about two or three days. I think the most important tip is to get rid of diapers and pull ups -- they delay the process. I let my little boy run naked around the house or with cotten underwear on. I love the training underwear that has a little extra material/cotton in the crotch b/c then they can feel if they start to pee and learn quickly to hold it until they get to the potty. I feel that the pull ups absorb too much and they don't get to experience the feeling of being wet. I only put pull ups or diapers on my son at night and during naps. Good luck with it! - L. G.

It does work! I have a 2 year old and she was potty trained until her baby brother was born 3 weeks ago (of course I potty trained about 6 weeks ago so no big surprise with that!). Now that mommy is wearing a pad for the postpartum bleeding she want to be like mom And have her own diaper. Will be retraining as soon as that is over.

We did this potty training program: http://thepottytrainer.com/
It was recommended to us by a couple of people from our playgroup. It is setup to train your child over a couple of weeks. Essentially, you are putting the child on the potty every 15-20-30 minutes (depending on the child) and making it a potty party, etc. After you work very consistently with the child, they should get it.
The only problem I had with it is that I started after my daughter was 2 and could already say no to me! The earlier you do it, the easier it's supposed to be. Other people will tell you the kid isn't ready, but as that ebook says, kids in other countries are potty training by a year and when many of us were younger, we were getting trained by 18 months or so.
Good luck! I hope you are able to find what works for you!

I heard many, many recommendations for Potty Training in 1 Day. I heard it was all about commitment. I was promised if I followed it, life would be good. I was a little desparate because the only pre-school that I could get him in (Mommy signed up late) was one that required 2 year olds to be potty trained. He had been asking about going potty, met all the requirements in the book and we decieded to go for it.

It was actually the worst day of our lives. I strongly suggest that if you deciede to do it, you do it alone not WITH your husband. We had extreme variation in our understanding of the intstructions. The end result was that our son sat on the potty chair, on a tarp, watching Wonder Pets for 6 hours straight...Are you aware that you can put a gallon of Juice (we measured) into a 22 month old and have NOTHING come out for hours? Who knew.

The next day we continued on wearing the big boy pants. On day three we were ready to give up, except that while I was at work, he told his nanny he wanted to sent his diapers to the Wonder Pets because he only wore big boy pants. (giving away the diapers was a suggestion from one of our friends) So...I came home from work and we had "given" away our diapers because we were such a big boy. We reached a new level of commitment.

Anyway the end result was about 2 months of wet pants several times a day (I'm suprised we are still allowed in serveral restaunts) and then we sent him to school with fingers crossed figuring they'd be senting him back. He's never had an accident in school. He just completed his first full year and he's three. Of all our friends, he's the only fully potty trained 3 year old (this is NOT a bragging right I would have been trying for if it hadn't been for the school).

We just conquered the poo-poo on the potty part (he used to just hold it an do in his pull up in the morning). The book claimed this would follow "naturally". Ha. I think this part might be easier for girls because our big poo-poo problem was going pee-pee on the floor when he tried (different equipment).

His best friend goes to a pre-school that potty trains them. if I had it to do over, I would have been standing in line the first week of Feb to get him into one of those schools in the fall.

Final Answer...it was difficult, it took longer than one day...but basically..my son is potty trained and has never had an accident as school so I guess it worked.

Good Luck...and remember...they don't leave for college wearing diapers so they will eventually potty train.

If there was a book about toilet training my son, it could be called "Toilet Training in 2 Years or More". In the past 2 years, I have read about 5 books on the subject, including "Toilet Training Without Tears". If only. The only real truth that has stuck with me from any of the books was one that said, basically, if your child has a compliant nature (i.e. puts on his shoes when you ask him) then toilet training won't be a big deal, but if your child is resistant to suggestion, then it would probably be a challenge. YUP. I probably started too early (2 1/2) for him, but I was in a panic about a preschool requirement for the 3 yr old class. Well, it turns out that pee pee has never been a problem, because they have tiny urinals for the boys at school, and he thinks that is just the best thing ever. But to this day (and he is a week shy of his 5th birthday), I am quite sure he has never made a BM in any toilet other than in his own bathroom at home, and at my parents' (where we go for 6 weeks every summer). He has told me that he holds in it till he gets home! I have tried telling him that that is not healthy, but this falls on deaf ears. He is really quite normal in every other way, even though he is fiercely independent. So I have basically just tried to stop talking about it and will wait till he comes around and is ready. It has been a long, long, stressful phase of his development. God forbid we get stuck in an airport or something this summer, I honestly don't know if he would choose to go in his pants over using a public restroom. I don't really know why I am telling you all of this, I guess partly to vent and partly to let you know that you can plan all you want, and sometimes things don't go according to plan! But best of luck to you, and it will work out fine in the end, however your daughter gets there.

I did what Lisa G. did -- well, my girls weren't quite naked -- I let them run around with long t-shirts on and nothing on underneath. We spent the better part of two days outside with a toddler potty where it was accessible. It worked. If you do this, have your camcorder or your camera handy, because you'll get some great shots. Just the other day we were watching a home video where my younger daughter was walking like she just got off a horse, and she had the funniest expression on her face -- it was great!

Good luck!
