O.k .so we just moved into a new place that we are renting. And I cannot seem to get this buildup of little black dots in our toilet to stop. It happens in just the area where the water sits. It take less then a day after cleaning for them to pop up. I have never had this problem and never changed my cleaning schedule since the move other then now I have to clean it even more to keep the black spots at bay. Does anyone know what this is...or know how to solve the issue of getting rid of them all together.

Thanks

What can I do next?

If you live in a home with a septic tank, be careful on using the bleach to much. If Vinager would work it would be a better choice.

We have the same issue.
The person who owned our house before us used a very abbrasive cleanser & wore off the coating on the toilet bowl. The only way I can keep on top of it is by using a bleach drop in.

Hi, I did have the same problem too, but solved it with putting in one of those Clorox bleach disks in the toilet tank. The black dots are mildew, and bleach kills them. After I put one in, I didn't have any more problems! Hope that works for you!

We use kaboom toilets cleaning system. You can get it at Target or Wal-Mart. Lasts for 3 months. You just stick it inside the tank. I rarely have clean the toilets.

I have the same issue in one of my 3 bathrooms. There is no ductwork (fot furnace or AC) in there, so I believe that it is mold, due to no air circulation. I do not have this as badly in the summer. I have to scrub the loo bowl 2 times a day!!

Is it spots or actually debris? If it's debris, it could be coming from the tank and cleaning the tank would solve the problem. You don't have well-water, do you? We had serious debris-in-the-water problems at our last house with a well. If that's case, good luck.

Before buying some toxic chemical to dump into our water system, please try this remedy first.

Use a plastic scrubbie and put on rubber gloves. Apply 100% white vinegar on the scrubbie and scrub off the dots, in the bowl, under the rim, etc. You can try the same with a little BonAmi cleanser (Bon Ami has no bleach.) Flush. Then pour about a cup of white vinegar in the bowl and let it soak.

Completely non-toxic. Does the job. Doesn't cost much, and no harsh chemicals to inhale or flush.

Possibly hard water deposits??? I know we get something like that in our basement toilet, but that's only because the water sits for so long because we don't use it often, but obviously, that's not the case for yours. If you keep noticing it, check with your landlord. You might also try one of those toilet tank drop ins. Might help.

I only get the toilets cleaned about once every 2 wks. & know they should be done more often, however, after I clean them with regular toilet bowl cleaner, I pour 1 cup of liquid bleach inside the tank and 1 cup of bleach around the edges & inside the water in the toilet bowl. I just let it sit until someone uses & flushes the toilet next time.
