My toenails are ugly :( I need advice on what to do or what products to use to make them look better!!

I try to keep them trimmed. All I ever really use on them is the nail clippers. I've never been into the manicures, pedicures, makeup, hair, etc that most women do. So I have NO clue about these things!

I wear socks all the time. Only time I leave them off is for showering or swimming.

What should I be doing to help my toenails? They are always discolored, brittle & breaking. I can't go somewhere for pedicures. I need suggestions on things I can do myself at home. Especially if they are cheap & easy :)

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Try eating Gellatin and taking prenatals, they are great for hair/nail growth. For just making them look better, I would just do a light pink nailpolish. I have ugly toenails too, and that's the only thing that makes them look decent.

If they are discolored, I think you should see a podiatrist to check for a fungal infection or some other treatable problem. As your physician for a referral to someone who takes your insurance. While there, ask about the brittleness & breakage problem. There can be nutritional deficiencies at work. I would not put any products on until you make sure the nail, and the skin underneath, are both healthy. The podiatrist can also trim the nails for you while you are there, and help make sure you are doing it properly at home.

For your discolored nails, you can buy a fungus treatment at the drugstore - most are the same (undecylenic acid) - cost @ $10. Or, if it's not real bad, you can use a buffer to remove white marks (which is likely still a fungus infection). A buffer is a foam pad that has a couple of edges that are a light sanding material. Or you can see a podiatrist. For an at home pedicure, soak your feet in a small tub from the dollar store. When every thing is soft, "sand" you feet with a paddle shaped pumice board. They are the best. Clip and/or file your toenails (straight across, not rounded). Rub lotion on feet and treat your toenails. I would skip the polish until you clear up your nails. If your feet are very rough, cover with vaseline before bed and put on a bare of socks. They will be nice and soft in the morning.

I had two that were thicker and yellower I think it was a fungus infection. I used Vicks vaporub every night for A YEAR and a half and they got better. Pretty cheap and easy but not fast.
