Tights seem to be the definite answer but my son does the same thing and for my peace of mind I keep a blanket in the car and he will wrap up in that..

I've got a simple solution for you! Try tights! They will stay on and keep her little legs warm as well. There are some adorable ones out there now with sparkles and designs. We like selections from Payless Shoes, Target and Kohl's.

I have a 31/2 year old who does the same thing. what I started doing was putting cotton tights on her. she still takes her shoes off but at least her feet are warm. under pants she can't get the tights off and she likes the tights.
good luck!!!

Both my kids did this...and my 3 year old still does it now. Only I can't say he'd doing it now that it's cold; in the summer, though, we actually lost some crocs because he refused to keep them on! I wish I could offer you a solution, but I haven't found one! All I can offer is solace in knowning that your child is not the only one who is obsessed with taking their shoes off! Good luck!

I had this happen with all three of my girls, and nothing ever helped. I just had to let them grow out of it, but how annoying! Every time we needed to get out of the car they had stripped their socks and shoes off. Hang in there, they will grow out of it, but you'll drive yourself crazy trying to get her to stop! :o)

It's hard to understand why our little ones do some of the things they do, but if it isn't hurting them, LITERALLY, them leave them be! My daughter will be 4 in 2 weeks and has this SAME adversion to socks and shoes as well. The ONLY time she wore socks was when she was 1 yr old and less. Once she could take them off that was it. I just had to get over MY issues of her having cold tootsies. Once I laid off of arguing with her I realized she would leave her socks &/or shoes on when SHE felt her feet were cold. Now, the whole store issue..as long as she was in the buggy, fine, no shoes, but the minute she wanted down there was NO discussion about it, she had to have socks & shoes on. Once she realized I wasn't going to argue with her, she would decide whether or not she really wanted down. I gave her options (limited) instead of telling her what I wanted her to do and she has the power to decide.
My daughter also went through this with a pair of pajamas. She wore them EVERYWHERE. There was no point in fighting there either. Our deal was as long as they were clean, she could wear them. Kids have their own idea fashions so I let her be. After a while and a summer full of Wiggles pajama photos, she let them go. Good luck.

Instead of socks put "tights" on her. Even if she takes off her shoes she would have to strip her pants to get rid of the tights. Maybe that would be too much trouble for her.

One other thing... when you see her start to take them off... offer her a distraction... maybe a toy she loves.

my toddler is the same, at times. One thing that helped us, everytime we put his shoes on, I make a voice for the shoes (like a cookiemonster type voice) and say, "I'm a hungry shoe!! I like to eat toes and feet." My son very willingly puts each foot forward for a shoe and I make a munchy sound as his shoes go on. He giggles, and usually keeps them on after that. Of course, lately, ALL HE WANTS to wear is a diaper and shoes; now I'm having trouble keeping shirts and pants on him. Overall, I think she's just going through a phase, and as much as moms hate to think this way: if her feet get cold enough, she won't WANT to take them off next time. Sometimes, kids just have to learn the hard way that's there's a reason for what mom says :) good luck

If you have tried everything then either harsh punishment like a spanking OR just letting her feet get so cold that she is begging to put them back on.
I would be at a loss as you are. Sorry I am not more help!

I think it is just a phase. My son (26 months old) went through a period where he would not leave his shoes on. I think is was b/c he was born in the summer and too little to really pull his shoes off during winter and then when summer came around again he went barefoot. So, when winter came around again and he needed to wear shoes he would take them off. I think b/c it is something foreign to him. He eventually stopped. You can put tights on her...that would keep feet warm and then just don't worry about it. It will pass. I wouldn't punish her. When she takes her shoes off you can do one of two things...put her shoes back on and keep doing this and explain why we have to leave them on and show her you have shoes on...two, just put her shoes in the diaper bag so you don't lose them. This will pass just like any other phase. Hope this helps.

Hi! I have a 23 month old and we've had the same problem. Do you remember the little bells that were worn on shoes to first the shoestings tied and also to keep kids from taking their shoes off? That's what I use and IT WORKS! Hope this helps. Oh yeah, I got them from the Stride Rite Shoe Store.

My younger son would NOT wear shoes at that age. We found some fleece lined , high top mocassins that tied around the ankle. He would actually keep them on. Our doctor told us not to worry when we were at home, that going barefoot was better for his foot development. But like you said, he needed something on when we went out. You could also try crocs, which are easy to slip on and off, and they even have lined ones now. He is just not going to be a shoe person, it sounds like! My sister wears flip flops all year - even in the winter! Good luck.

I'm definitely not 911 Nanny, but it sounds like time for a consequence to me. She is old enough for a 2 min. time out. When mommy says no, that is what it means. We all know to not teach them that the world revolves around them, so if you are going out of your way (like warming up the car earlier than normal) to accomodate her, the future will soon get a way from you. She will continue to test the limits until you show her the line. Maybe this isn't where you want to draw the line which is fine, but think about where that is. Because soon she will be crossing it. Children thrive the most when limits are set.

Good luck :)
