My three-year-old daughter is potty trained. Lately she's been having two, three peepee accidents a day, especially at school. I know the subject of a urinary tract infection came up. I don't think it's that because she is in good spirits, doesn't have a fever, or anything. It's lately that when she says she needs to go potty, she has to go right away where we don't make it to the potty on time. Is this a behavior issue or should I take her to the doctor to make sure? Like I said, she has no symptoms of a UTI. I need some answers on what to do.
It wasn't a UTI. She was just engrossed with doing what she was doing at the moment. I usually have her let me know when she needed to go, but now I try to ask her every few hours if she needs to go and it works. Thanks!!!
It's all behavioral...most kids do this at that age. Ignore it and it will go away as soon as it came. They just don't want to stop what they are doing to go.
I would definitely have her check for a UTI first. They don't usually get a fever. If there is no infection presnet then look for a behavior.
It's an easy pee cup test for a UTI, so I'd get her checked. She'sonly 3, so maybe she's not asking in time to go at school? I'd also talk to the teachers and find out what the pee break policy is at her school.
I would that her to your doctor to rule out any infections. My daughter had NO syptoms, but my mommy instinct told me something wasn't right. When I took her to the doctor it turned out she had Stage 4 vesicoureteral (renal) reflux. They took a urine sample and it was positive and from that result we did several tests do determine what the problem was. We were lucky we caught it when she was just a baby and she has since had surgery to heal her and she had no permanent damage to her kidneys. Trust your instinct!
Hi S., talk to her teacher and make sure that she is allowed to go to the restroom when she first ask to go. If that is not the problem make sure nothing else is going on like beening picked on by another child. If there is no problem maybe you should have her checked by her doctor. I have an 8 year old grand daughter with that problem, she can not hold it for long without having an accident. If a doctor or anyone else tells you she is just lazy do not believe them, no child will do this to them self. One of my daughters wet the bed and the doctor told me she was just lazy and I would punish her for it, did"nt the doctor now what was going on, a big "NO". She is 43 years old married has grown children and still will wet the bed sometimes. I don"t think the brain is getting the message to wake up.

My daughter has had chronic UTI's since she was about 3 years old. The first time she had a UTI she never complained, never talked about it hurting, no sign that anything was wrong until the day she started having "accidents". She had been completely potty trained for a while and all of a sudden this one day she started having accidents. I didn't really think anything of it at first and then, with her 3rd accident of the day she started peeing blood. The light finally went on and we went to have her checked and she had a raging UTI. Anyway, that was the start of a 3 year battle to find out why she was getting them and then just as suddenly as they started, she stopped having them.
Also, since your daughter is already potty trained, there is absolutely no reason why they should have to do a straight cath to get the sample. Stick to your guns and make them let her pee in the cup and save everyone the trauma of an unnecessary procedure.

it may very well just be a slight UTI that is just giving her a sudden urge to go, or the feeling of a constant need to go so that she cant really tell she HAS to until its too late. I would take her just to be sure!
