Ok, so this is not an important question and it doesn't really happen to often, but I am wonder what you guys do when this things happen to you.
My 2.5 doesn't take naps any more and she normally goes to sleep at 8pm, wakes up at 2 am (horrible!!) but goes right to sleep and wakes up around 7am
There have being days like today where we are out and then she falls to sleep in the car at 6pm, I let her sleep an hour and wake her up, but she gets super cranky and most of the times she has problems going to sleep at 8 and end up sleeping at 10pm and she is to tired to wake up at 7am. then she is to tired to stay up until 8pm, and so on.
Which is awful because I drive my older kid to school and this things just make it harder for all.
I am thinking to let her sleep until tomorrow since is Saturday and we will be home tomorrow, but I have the feeling it may not work well and she will wake up at 3am.
When this happen to you, do you don't let them sleep, do you let them sleep and wake them up after an hour and deal with the grumpynes (sp), or you let them sleep until the next day hoping they will not wake up at 3am?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I was going to let her sleep but around 7:30 she wake up on her own (like 30 min or so after I post this, lol)but still super cranky, it took me about 20 min to calm her down and stop crying, I don't know why this happen but it has also happen when she wakes up on her own.
After that we could put her to sleep until 10pm.
She did wake up around 3am and I though it was going to be a long night, but she went right to sleep when I put her in her bed and wake up are her normal time.
So it wasn't as bed as I was expecting, lol.
Thanks all for the advice.

Let her sleep. Would you want someone to wake you up from a good afternoon nap? Since it is the weekend, it really isn't a big if she does wake up at 3am, is it?

Just LET her sleep.

Both my kids, have done that... falling asleep for a nap and NOT waking until the next day. Until at their normal waking time.
I LET them sleep.
They need it.
They usually do that when they are hitting a major growth-spurt or milestone.
They wake up the next day just fine.
And their usual sleep/nap routines are still intact.

My son, a couple of times, slept for 14 hours straight.
He needed it. And was really growing at those times.
He did not wake at 3:00am. But his normal time the next morning.

A kid gets cranky... because they are woken up and did not get a full sleep.

If my kids fall asleep early, I let them go and enjoy the extra couple hours of peace and quiet!

When my son was your son's age he would only fall asleep (at naptime anyway) in the car, so when he looked like he needed it, I'd drive him around a little (at around 1:00) until he fell asleep. Then I'd go through a drive- through and get myself a drink, then park and listen to the radio and look at a magazine. This wasn't every day, of course- but it worked for both of us- I was glad to get a break and he wasn't cranky late in the day.

I agree- at 6pm let her sleep. It's usually a sign she needs it. If it was before 4pm, I'd probably wake her however.. : ) Good luck tonight!

Hi. I totally can relate.
I find that if my LO does not nap, and I want to keep him up until bedtime, I do not put him in the car late in the afternoon which naturally rocks him to sleep. :) at which point, when he wakes, he is up a few more hours. so on no nap days, we do errands etc all before 4...

in addition, try to make sure your LO goes to bed with a full tummy --
food and water. sometimes if they don't nap and fall asleep, they did not give themselves enuf food.

I'd let her sleep. My kids napped daily until they were 4 years old. I found that if they napped during the day, they slept through the night without waking up and they were less cranky. Some kids need more sleep than others.

I normally do what you do. I let my son sleep for an hour and wake him up. Other times, if I see that its getting too late for a nap, we play, eat bathe, and read. Before you know it, its bed time. Good luck. I'm sure everything will work out fine.
