my 17 month old has weighed the same since his 12 mo well check (approx 20.5 lbs)... at his 15 mo well check the dr wasn't concerned because he was staying on the same curve. we weighed him on a home scale just about a week ago and low and behold, 20.5 lbs STILL. he eats, has more energy than the engergizer bunny, certainly doesn't look unhealthy or emaciated... just wondering if any of your kids have metabolized as well as my son... just kinda freaks me out...

What can I do next?

hi L., if is doctor doesn't see a concern, then it's probably you said he eats good, has a lot of energy, looks helthy. You can try and give him more pasta's, rices, potatoes, kds are on the go so much, they probably burn the calories off as soon as they eat them, wish it worked that way for me. See what happens at his next check up, see if the doctor has any concerns then, in the meantime, enjoy your little guy. J. J.

I remember going to my daughter's 2nd year check up and she had only gained 5 pounds since her first birthday. The this year at her 3rd year, she was only five pounds heavier than age 2 (and that was after what I considered a HUGE growth spurt). I told the doctor I couldn't believe it since i can gain 5 pounds on a bad weekend. She said not to worry as long as they are eating and playing all is well. Don't worry!

Your child is probably burning all those calories, walking and running. Once kids become more mobile they use more calories. As a mom of 3 underweight kids... Dont worry , and dont listen when people tell you anything. My kids are all long and lean. My son is 12 months and 18lbs, my daughters are 2.5 and 24 lbs. I freak out think something is wrong, and my doc is constantly telling me that as long as they have good apps, and energy levels that he sees no problem. I hope this helps!

Hi L.,

My son weighed almost 24 lbs at his 1 year check. He's almost 2 1/2 and hasn't reached 30 lbs yet. He eats fine (some days more than others) and drinks plenty of milk. He's just busy running around, climbing, etc. so I think he burns it off. I've heard that toddlers don't tend to gain too much at this point, but it seems startling to us because they grow so much that first year.
