A.P.
I've read other posts about kids making themselves sick to get to stay awake. How long are they asleep before it happens? I wonder if they get so upset about going to sleep its happening.
My almost two year old last night and tonight threw up at the exact same time. 2am. I'm starting to wonder if she's doing it herself. She has no fever and wants to stay up and play right after her bed has been cleaned and she's had a bath.
Just wondering if kids make themselves sick?
If it keeps happening I'll definitely be calling her pediatrician but would just like some suggestions or anything. It's getting me stressed out. Tonight was hell trying to get her to go back to sleep.
Thanks for the input ladies.
I just figured she was making herself sick because she's in the phase of hitting herself in the face as well as biting herself to get what she wants. I did some researching online, and I guess it could be a few things. I read some kids puke when getting their two year molars in. She doesn't have them yet, so Maybe she's teething. I'll be calling the doctor to see what they think and if she needs to be seen.

Hi, Mommy:
I would wonder about a child
making themselves sick in the middle of the night.
Call and talk to your ped's nurse and see what she says.
Good luck.

I'm not sure that two times is enough to think this is a pattern. It could just be happening at that point in her sleep cycle. I would suspect sickness or a reaction to food first before behavioral issues.
My now 5.5yr old was waking at 3am and throwing up just liquid/bile/spit when he was 3yrs old. It went on for a week before I called hte pediatrician, who said its probably just reflux that strikes when his tummy is empty. After another week it didn't go away, so they had us come in and scheduled and MRI, saying that vomiting in the early morning and then feeling better could be a sign of a brain tumor! I flipped out!
He had the MRI and it was clear, no tumor, and he continued to vomit in the early morning for another week or two, doctor said it was probably an ulcer and reflux. After that month he never did it again.
Definentely call your doctor with the details. It would be somethin to watch.
Last winter my kids had a bizzare stomach virus that was doing just that... fine all day and then they would vomit once at night. Lasted 4 days each kid. I found out it was a virus as it started to happen to my other kids. I hope its as simple as that for you. Good luck!
Definitely something to watch. From the perspective of someone whose child did vomit to get out of bed, I could see this happening.
Is she crying a lot before she throws up? Do you put her to bed sound asleep?
My son did it when he first went to his crib and the first time it followed a lot of crying. We were first time parents and didn't know what to do and of course, picked the wrong thing - we brought him to our bed. He then did this every night for a week. By the end of the week, he didn't even cry he would just make himself vomit. And by the end of the week, we were tired of changing sheets, so he just slept with us.
I would go ahead and call your ped though and let them know what is going on, they may want to check her out after so many incidents, etc. and they may also have some suggestions.
My ped told me not to go all out cleaning. He suggested I make the bed with two sets of sheets, so I could just pull one off and wipe the child up with wipes, new jammies if needed and then right back to bed. But we did know it was behavioral.
There can be so many reasons to her doing that, it may not be an attention seeking issue. If it was I think she would definitely do it as soon as its lights out.
She may now be developing a milk allergy and once it hits the intestines will cause the vomiting to occur.
She can also maybe have a stomach virus. Stomach virus's don't necessarily have to occur with a fever and diarrhea.
Worst case it could be a seizure episode she is having while she sleeps. YES that is scary... I have went through it with my son. Had to see a Neurologist, get EEG's, the whole 9. He does not have any type of seizure disorder, thank goodness.
Just watch her and see how she does the next couple days, or take her to her peds in the a.m.
Unfortunately vomiting can be so many things... If she vomits 3x or more in an hour then a trip to the e.r. would be something to think about because of dehydration issues.
Hope it gets better.
