Hi,
I am a mommy of two, baby girl 2 months old and son who is 27 months old. My son just broke his leg last week and I'm wondering if any mom has been thru this! (I know someone has to have!) I'm going crazy -- he's a VERY active boy and the cast is a full leg cast so he cannot walk on it. He sort of crawls but mostly cries, whine, and wants me to sit with him every minute of every day :( Does anybody have any ideas of how I can get him to play again, and maybe some [safe] exercise for him? He's also not sleeping much, I think due to not expending any energy.
Don't know how we're going to survive 6 weeks of this!! Luckily my baby girl is pretty laid back ~ at least God gave me that much of a break ;)

Any helpful hints appreciated - or just letting me know someone else has been thru this!
Thanks!!
K.

P.S. totally different subject...I exclusively breastfed my son and didn't get my period til he was 14 months old. I am exclusively breastfeeding my daughter as well but think that I've already had my period return...has anyone else had this happen so fast??

What can I do next?

Poor kid! I had a hard time sitting still when I broke my foot - as an adult!

Well, not that I've been through this with my toddler, but try doing crafts. Painting, coloring, working with glitter and stamps. Make a sticker board. I'm sure there are great ideas online. Color Easter eggs. Who cares if Easter has passed - celebrate it again. Perhaps you can come up with a "fishing" game he can do from the couch. Hmm. Maybe have him scoot around on the floor and mop for you? Perhaps that won't hurt so much and get him moving a bit. My baby's crying. Best of luck to you!

Oh, and the period coming back - totally normal! Don't worry about that.

Hi K.,
My daughter broke her arm this year (she's five). The first week was tough. In fact, don't tell anyone, but I only bathed her once that week! One day, after about a week, she said, "Hey, my arm doesn't hurt anymore!" After that, I had to work to keep her out of trees! My point: even though your son has a cast, his leg might still hurt a bit.

My suggestion is to see if your son will take a shower. It might be easier to bathe him this way. I taped a garbage bag on my daughter's arm. I used the blue painter's tape I had in the garage, but any masking tape should work. For safety's sake, I would probably put a chair in the shower for your son to sit on or hop in the shower with him. This may be tough, because I also have a three year old son who cannot stand the shower and screams the entire time.

Good luck, I hope things turn around in a day or two for you!

My little boy was 17 months old when he broke his right leg 2 days after Thanksgiving. We had to go thru Christmas with his cast. I was so upset and worried what was going to happen. My little boy broke his tibia bone just below the knee (hairline fracture) and he was in a cast for 5 weeks. I am not sure how bad your little boy broke his leg but my son's cast was just above the knee about half way up his thigh. Anyways he did not walk on it right away. He had a hard time getting around at first but my son is very active too and he figured out how to get around. The doctor told me that he could walk on it if he wanted to but not to push him. If he wanted to do it he would and I think that I was more scared than my son was. The hardest part was bathing him and I had to sponge bathe him for 5 weeks. Anyways it felt like the longest 5 weeks for me but we made it through. Just give him time and he will adjust to it. The first week is the hardest I think and I thought my son would be slower due to the cast but he is so active that he found his way around. He has had it off for 3 months now and you would not even know that he ever broke his leg. It will get better believe me.

Take care and hope all goes well for you.

I love Jesus too and I think it's cool that you wrote that in your posting! Nice going!!! Thank God, none of my kids have had any broken bones so I can't help you on that front. Just take a day at a time and the six weeks will pass eventually. Maybe try V-Smile or some new movies. My kids like rock/paper/scissors too when we're in the car. Art work might be another idea. Anyway, I'm actually writing to address your period. I breastfeed both of my children and I started menstruating after 4 weeks with the first and after 2 weeks with the second. It's so different for everybody. I think it's a sign of your body when your body is ready for the next one, i.e., your inside has healed completely from the birth. It really doesn't mean anything more than that so don't worry about it. Good luck with your son!
