My 14 month old son is such a good eater, but I'm not that good and figuring out what to give him to eat. Especially for snacks. Usually it's a banana, cereal bar, goldfish, or animal crackers. Any ideas??

What can I do next?

I recently signed my son up to a playgroup one day a week. Each parent is assigned to bring in a snack. I was amazed at the wonderful snacks that the moms brought in. It's not just one item for a snack--it's a combo of healthy things. Here are some of the snacks:

Chex mix (go on their website for the recipe that is like a trail mix)
Cheese cubes with grapes and crackers
Goldfish with baby carrots and yogurt
Organic animal crackers, raisins and blueberries

I love the answer about combining healthy things, I guess I never really thought about that! We liked to do little sandwhiches, like finger sandwhiches and my son always ate them better if they were cut into fun shapes. We used these sandwhich cutters and he loved it, I tried to let him pick the shape each day!

We used them with whole grain bread and cheese, or peanut butter...

I generally only offer fruits or veggies for snack. Maybe peanut butter or hummus to go with.

My 2 favorite books, borrow them from the local library and try them out before spending the money. I loved them and found I was borrowing them every couple of weeks so hubby bought them for me.

Borrow them, see how they fit into your food budget, how the child likes the different foods, etc...that way if it is a complete bust you have not spent a lot of money on books that don't work for you.

I do believe that once you open the pages of these books you will be opening them every day and using page after page of recipes and ideas.

I have the same problem...I feel like I give him a lot of the same snacks. I try to buy different cold cereals, both fresh and canned fruit, he loves cucumbers, so we do that a lot, mini bagels with cream cheese, saltines and peanut butter, fruit snacks (although your little guy might be too young still), pretzels, cheese, pudding, yogurt...I just try to look at the grocery store for new things! Good luck.

My daughter is 2 and a half. We do clementines this time of year, and all summer we do all the great summer fruit-berries.We do garbanzo beans (she loves hummus but sometimes just wants to beans) and we call them "crunchy peas" http://snacksalad.com/products.html They are good with no real choking issue. All those pouches with fruit/veg mixed (my daughter doesn't eat veg so we need to sneak it in :) Raisins and nuts-also depending on choking issues-I was very uptight about them, so you be the judge for your child. Good luck-you've got some great suggestions here that I plan to use too!
