Mamas,
My 15 month old got diagnosed with a double ear infection 3 weeks ago. He's on his second round of antibiotics since the first round did nothing to clear it up. My question is this--when your kid(s) have had ear infections and were on antibiotics, did they sleep a lot? He went to bed last night at 8 p.m. and slept until 9:45 this morning--3 hours longer than usual! THEN he was ready for a nap 2 hours later and slept for 2 hours. He had a fever the first 4 days after starting this last antibiotic and has been super tired this whole time. Should I call my doctor or is this pretty normal? Just wanted to hear your experiences so I can determine if I'm just being paranoid. Thanks mamas! :)

What can I do next?

Your child was sick.
Ear infections are hard.

My kids, when going through growth-spurts, sleep a ton.
My son, when he is having a growth-spurt, has been known to sleep for 14 hours straight. And then he grows like a weed.

15 months old, is a growth-spurt time in a child. Every 3 months is. So the next one will be at 18 months and so forth.

My son also typically naps, for 2 hours. Sometimes 3 when he is spurting.

And if ill at the same time, sure, they can sleep a lot.

Let your son sleep.
Sleep, is when the body is healing itself.

My guy always sleeps more when he's fighting something, I do the same, I think it's our body's way of trying to get as much rest as possible so they can do the work of healing more efficiently. And your son could coincidentally be going through a growing or developmental spurt at this time : )

My son suffered lots of ear infections and actually got tubes at 15 months, but he did sleep a lot when he was on his antibiotics - even after the fever cleared. He was always so restless in his sleep in the beginning, but after he started to feel a little better (i'm assuming they were clearing up) - it was like he was on catch up mode or something.

I think it's alright, but i would monitor it and see if he doesn't start to get back to normal soon.

Yes it's common to sleep hen you're sick or when you have missed sleep due to discomfort. Chiropractic care helps with ear infections too usually.

He could just still feel icky from the ear infections. When I feel icky, I tend to like to sleep.

Or, he could just be gearing up for a growth spurt. Better have some bigger clothes lined up for him to wear!
