My son - just since last night - has been grabbing himself and saying owee... Last night it was when he was in the bath, sort of like he didn't want to sit down in the tub because it hurt. Any ideas of what this could be? The sitter called me this morning and said he's done it about 5 times this morning but is playing like he feels fine. Help! Thanks moms - S.

Can you tell if he's doing it as he urinates? It's possible he could have a urinary track infection. This is the very same sign I had that something was wrong with our almost 2 year old daughter had a urinary track infection. You should probably take him to see his pediatrician just in case. In the mean time, offer him cranberry juice to drink, I water it down 1/2 and 1/2 juice/water. Our pediatrician also recommended sitz baths. Warm water, up to their waste, dissolve 1/2 cup salt in the water and 1/2 vinegar. Kind of agitate the water a little with your hands while he's in there. (This worked for our daughter, but I'm really not sure how it works with little boys.)

Just out of curiosity, is your son circumcised? The reason I ask is neither of my sons are, and my three-year old has done the same thing off and on. It is usually a little infection that is cleared up with Bacitracin ointment. This is what his peditrician prescribed. If not that, then I'm guessing a urinary tract infection. They can occur in boys as well as girls, just not as frequently. I hope that helps. :^)

It could be as simple as a UTI or it could be something more serious...I would suggest getting him into the Dr. ASAP.

My daughter does the same thing but she only has done it in the bathtub. She will be two on Sunday.

Could be a hernia. I could tell when my son was three months old that he was in some pain. That's what it was. If he's doing that I would get him to the doctor right away. Tell them exactly what he's doing.

It could be a UTI or some other infection, but I hate to be a downer, it could be worse. You should check to be sure he has not been abused. It is possible, although unlikely. A doctor can help you with how to determine that.

If you can't see anything physically then you need to take him to the doctor because it could be a urinary tract infection or something similiar.

Good luck,

My nephew had a twisted testicle (or something like that), he was a little older than your son, but I'm sure it could happen at any age. They were told that if they had waited too long he could have trouble fathering children, in fact he and his wife are trying right now and are starting to wonder if he will be a dad, but they've only been married 2 years. If it were me I'd think about taking him in ASAP, you never know, but you don't want to mess with these things. Let us know what you find out.

Maybe a kidney infection, it causes a burning sensation when they urinate, and you urinate more frequently with one.
I know the timing is off ( holidays and what not) but I wouldn't ignore it, I doubt he is "playing" that it hurts, I would take him to his pediatrician or Urgent Care and have it checked out.
Good luck
