If he does take in anything at then call the dr. But he just may be uncomfortable for up to a week. If you look at his weekly intake then you will see that even adults have days where we eat more one day and less the next.
Good Luck!
Hi Moms,
My 18-month-old got the Hep A vaccine at his wellness visit and now has a loss of appetite. He received it three days ago and since then has refused his formula (dairy/soy intolerance) and has little appetite for solids. I'm concerned since his weight is on the low side to begin with. Has any other moms had this experience with their toddlers? If so, how long did it last?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

loss of appetite is one of the listed side effects of the vaccine.
I wouldn't worry about it, unless it goes for a long time. My daughter goes through periods were either she will eat alot, or not really anything.
What i would try is with her night time bottle and morning one i would put oat meal in it.
My kids have had the Hep A vaccine.
Nothing happened to them afterwards. No side effects what so ever.
Tell your Ped.?
Make sure he does not get dehydrated.
Dehydration... is something I would be more worried about... in a child.
I hope you are still nursing- nurse him lots,if not see if you can get mother's milk- check with local mid wives to see somone who will help with mother's milk
and PLEASE read up on vaccines, PLEASE, before your do another.
best, k
One of the less common side effects is loss of appetite that usually starts 3-5 days after they receive the vaccine and lasts 1-2 days so if it goes on for longer than that I would call the doctor just to be safe, but I wouldn't worry too much.
My son has to have Hep A and B vaccines if a blood test shows he is low. When he had a booster last yr he wasn;t hungry for a fw days. He did eat but very little, only because I asked him to. My son is 11 though so I can reason with him more than you could a toddler. If he is not lethargic, I would just make sure he is getting fluids so he does not get dehydrated and see if his appetite comes back in a couple of days.
He sounds like an "at risk" child. Not a child that should be given vaccines at this time. He has food allergies, low weight and probably sensory issues since he does not like solids. 2+2=4 everytime. Stay away from vaccines and meds. They will make him sicker from the vaccines then the thing you are trying to prevent. Educate before you vaccinate.
