Toddler Getting 3 Shots in One Day

Hi,

My son went to the doctor yesterday. He is now 20 months old. I know he was overdue for a shot or two. Well the doctor said he needed 5 so he gave him 3 yesterday and he is to receive the other 2 in the coming week. Is there any harm to him getting the 3 shots in one day. Any long term effects I should be worried about.

What can I do next?

Just saying a big thank you to all you moms who responded. Now I am wiser about the pros & cons of vaccinations. Thankfully he had no reactions to the vaccines. God Bless you all.

Hi Y.,

Wow, you just hit on one of the most controversial topics of the decade, shots. You will get all kinds of advice here, some of which will worry you, so try not to worry too much. Most children get multiple shots at once and it's fine. All of my children had multiple shots at once and aside from the normal crabbiness and fever for a day or so, they were fine. I do have an autistic child, but she had autism before her shots, so I know that wasn't the cause. I also have five grandchildren who have received multiple shots in one day, and they are all fine :)

I'm with the anti vaccine people. There is no conclusive evidence that they do what they claim. The scary thing is that they don't have to prove anything!

Someone below listed many wonderful sites where you can read about the detrimental long term effects the vaccines have. Here is another www.vacinfo.org

Here is a list of some ingredients in vaccines: msg, antifreeze, formaldehyde, aluminum, lead, cadmium, sulfates, antibiotics, acetone, streptomycin, monkey kidney, dog kidney, chick embryo, chicken egg, duck egg, calf serum, aborted fetal tissue, pig blook, horse blood, sheep blood, rabbit brain, guinea pig, cow heart, animal viruses, etc

Hi Y.! I am glad that you are questioning the safety of your doctor's decision. I respect all parents decision to vaccinate..but as for our family, we choose not to. I believe that the risks involved with the vaccines far outweigh the "safety" that they offer. As far as receiving 3 shots in one day...well, I think that is pretty normal for those that choose to vaccinate. You asked about long term effects to be concerned about...well, with any vaccine, you have cancer, add, adhd, weakening of the immune system, and of course, autism. Statistically 1 in 150 children are now diagnosed with autism, and some sources say the number is as high as 1 in 67. There is no such thing as a genetic epidemic..something is causing this is our children. If you would like to get a little more info, you can go to the following website http://www.vacinfo.org/. When I first became interested in learning more about vaccines, the following article really hit me as a reason to take the time to make a solid decision. You can read it here. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/0... . It is definitely a personal decision, but I think by your asking your question, you are already questioning the safety of vaccines. Again, I really do respect all parents choices..plenty of my friends still vaccinate...but plenty do not as well...and many are in the middle. Here is the advice given to me on the subject. Take as much time researching vaccines as you would researching a new car purchase, and see what you come up with. One of the first places I started was on the CDC website, looking at the stats on each disease. That really helped to make my decisions. Best of luck to you!

Vaccinating is such a personal choice, but Amy hit the nail on the head. We also chose not to vaccinate. Just stick to what you feel is right for your child and DO NOT let the doctor do the shots if you don't feel it's safe.

Hi. I would like to tell you our story. You have the ability to research it or disregard it. That is your choice. I only feel like you should at least be given that opportunity...

I have two sons. Blaine is almost 9 and was diagnosed a few years back with ADHD. Devin is 6 and was diagnosed at the age of 2 1/2 with Moderate Autism. Devin was developing normally until 18 months. He had a few querks but he was talking a bit and responsive and "normal". He got behind on his shots so I did what all parents are taught to do, I took him the his Ped. They said they could catch him up with no problem. They started having me sign for all these shots and brought in several needles. I asked several times, "Are you sure this is safe? This seems like too many." They quickly hushed me and told me that it was very safe and that they do it all the time. I submitted and let them give all 6 shots that day. He screamed at the top of his lungs that night and hardly slept at all. The next day, he was lethargic but we thought he just had a bad night and that's why he was acting strange. No one ever mentioned these reactions or Autism. We didn't even know what it was.

Within a week or two, he stopped answering to his name, started running in circles, flapping his arms, putting his face against the tv, had no interest in other children, didn't play with toys correctly, and more.

Over the past year, we have been fortunate enough to get genetic testing as well as toxicity testing, blood testing, urine testing, and more done on both boys. All of those tests point to one thing (for both boys). They both have been injured by vaccinations.

Please, don't make the same mistake that we did. Educate before you vaccinate. You don't have to take my word for it. I prefer that you don't. Please research on the net. It won't take long before you will start to read stories just like mine. We have no one else in our families with Autism. There is no genetic epidemic. That's not possible. Autism grew in numbers along with the number of vaccine recommendations.

I am pregnant with our third and final child. We WILL NOT be vaccinating this child...at all. Both of my kids go to public school even though they are not fully vaccinated because we stopped when we learned the truth. I simply went to the local health department and signed an exemption form. Then I took the forms to their schools and that was that. You DO NOT have to vaccinate for your children to go to school.

I have lost or am losing some family over this but my children's brain function and lives are worth this trouble and more.

Please research. www.vaccinetruth.org is a good place to start. Or just google vaccine injury.

Contact me with any questions. I am always willing to tell anyone who will listen the truth about vaccine injury.

I always asked the doctor for the minimum dose...and sometimes regret having my children immunized so young.
Do some research on the net, talk with your ped and keep watch on the child after the immunization.
I did also give my kids childrens' tylenol to ease the pain...

In the future, try to keep on schedule with well-visits and vaccinations so that he doesn't have to get so many at once. My son only needed one at his 18 month appointment. There were a couple appointments when my son was an infant were he go three shots at once, and there were no ill effects. Fever, pain at the injection site, and irritability are always possible side effects, and may be more pronounced when getting multiple shots at once, but as for long term effects, those would be no different than if he got the same shots at different times.

While I do believe there are children who suffer from vaccine sensitivity, the incidence of such cases is actually pretty rare. Like anything in life, you asses the risk, and if you so choose, accept the risk for the greater good.

Hi Y..

This is very embarrassing, but I have to share...hopefully to put you at ease. When my son was I think 6 or 7, he needed to prove that he had all his shots for a new school or something, and my ex-husband couldn't find the records. The doc ended up giving him ALL of his infant and toddler shots again in the same visit. Poor child tried his best to be strong, but cried anyway. :o( It turned out that I was the one who had the records. I felt (and still feel) so terrible about that it nearly made me cry.

Hope this helps. Luck!

My son had to get 3 in one day too b/c it was actually their mistake that he had missed one. It is really no big deal. Just like the normal stuff, fever etc, that you can expect with any shot. I wouldn't worry about it. You have to somewhat trust the doctor too. Although sometimes as a mom we do know best, in a situation like this we have to trust the education of our doctors b/c they wouldn't give your child 3 shots if their was going to be a problem. He will be fine!

Many kids do not have a problem getting 3 shots in one day, but I have started to spread out shots so that my children do not get more than one in a day. My 4 month old was behind on her shots due to my inability yo get to her 2 month appt. I opted to only have her get one shot and then another on 2 weeks. I prefer to spread them out as I don't want her having any reactions. My oldest boy got a bad temper a week after having 3 shots at one time and I will not have that happen again. He was miserable!

In addition, it is possible that getting a large amount of shots at one time will bring out autism IF your child is prone to get it. Autism has to be passed down genetically, but something in the shots can bring it out if the child is given more than one shot at a time.

My brother is autistic due to his fathers genes and all the shots given before he turned 2.

There is no harm to this. My son is 7 months old and he's gotten 4 shots in one appointment. They do tell you that they might get a fever but i've never experienced that with my son.

It depends on the shot. If you aren't comfortable with it, tell the doctor you want the shots spaced our more. Your child is around the age where a lot of kids develop autism, and many believe getting too many shots is connected with that. Do research and talk to your doctor. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hi Y.,

I agree 100% with Amy. The choice is yours to make for your kids. I made the same decision Amy did after much research and came to the same conclusions. I'm sorry to say that this only happened after I saw my best friend's child change over night after her vaccinations. What most people don't realize is that the immune system is made to fight off everything without additional help. The key is to get it strong and keep it strong.

There are simple ways to keep the immune system strong. My kids don't get sick anymore and are very highly paid for babysitting because they are the only babysitters around here that will keep a child who is sick. If you're ever interested in more information, feel free to ask. I'd love to help.

M.

Y.,
I personally, only give my 14 month old son one or two shots per appointment. It is totally necessary (sp?) for them to have that many at a time...especially since you can go back & see a nurse to get the rest.
I am NOT suggesting you not vaccinate your child....but for me, spreading them out seems to work.

Relax. It is normal and your ped knows which vaccines "go together" and when to administer. My oldest son's* vaccines had to be put up to date the summer before he started kindergarden and I too was very anxious about the results. Trust your ped. Ask for the timetable on the vaccines remaining and give him some Advil about an hour before he gets the rest so you avoid some fever or headache. Good luck
*He is 36 yrs. old :)

Y.,

Last year my son needed 6 shots and the nurse wanted to administer all 6 at one visit. I was shocked and a bit panicked and felt that it was too much for him so the nurse gave him 3 shots at one visit and the other 3 at another visit. The nurse reassured me that all 6 shots at one time would have been fine but I wanted to err on the side of caution and I followed my maternal instincts and opted to have him get 3 at a time. He did not have any effects from getting 3 shots at one time.

HI,
No long term effects(that they know about now), most pediatrician use to give 3 somtimes 4 in a visit. If the baby/child has a reaction, they really wont be able to tell which one. My peds Dr wont give my daughter more than 2 in a visit, for that reason, also cause they "hurt" so she doesnt want to tramatize her. Prepare for fever and irratability!
Good Luck!

Seriously, I would find another pediatrician! Either find a way to space these out as much as possible, or find a wholistic physician. Any side effects will be compounded by having that many shots at once. I have strong opinions about this because I have physical problems that I believe were caused by vaccines. I would also recommend reading Dr. Mendelsohn's "How to Have a Healthy Child Inspite of Your Doctor". This doctor had been in practice for 50+ years and has seen quite a few problems with the vaccines.

Dear Y.,
Hi. That is a lot of chemicals & toxins to put in a young healthy body. Also 2 weeks in between is not enough time to see if he has a reaction. A child is to have 25 immunizations by the time he or she goes to school. The reason doctors give so many together is so your child will not have to receive so many shots if you choose all 25. If you believe in these shots then it is essential that you educate yourself on them & chose the ones you feel are really necessary to your child's well being. When receiving multiple shots if your child has a reaction you will not know to which one. There is a book called "a shot in the dark". I highly rec. it to those who chose to inoculate their children. There is much info out there on this matter. Please be careful. G. (mother of 2, Grandma of 2)
