My son is 2 1/2. I want to buy a fun game for him... I have scoped out all the games at ToysRUs and I just can't decide which would he best.... I have considered Elefun, Hungry Hungry Hippos and Memory. Any advice or opinions about these games or any other games would be helpful!

What can I do next?

Elefun is a blast because it's very physical....which makes it perfect for his age group!

Memory is great, too. For his age group, I do not use the entire deck of cards. I start with a group of 5 sets (which then can be used to teach counting to 10)......& build from there.

& speaking of building: if the Memory cards are the stiffer/cardboard kind, then they can also be used for building houses!

I don't know about Elefun but Memory would be good! I think Hungry Hungry Hippo too. Candy Land should be one he could do. Chutes and Ladders a little more help from you but I think he could. Fisher Price used to have some simple games too (usually by the regular games). Have fun!!

My daughter received Zingo for her 3rd b-day. Kind of like Bingo, but she can play it on her own, with her big sis or we can all play it together. My kids loved it. Easy to travel with, take to a resturant or just to pull out for somethign fun to do.

I'd recommend Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders so that he can actually PLAY the game and enjoy it. You want the game to be fun not frustrating, and it will be more fun for the people playing WITH him if he can actually play it correctly.

Candy Land is great for learning to take turns and play fair... and dealing with disappointments (darn that sticky licorice :-P).

And don't worry about getting him a game he'll outgrown... My son STILL plays Candy Land and he's 5 and advanced.

I recently purchased Elefun and Candyland for my 2 1/2 year old. He loves Elefun, but I am disappointed because the butterflies last about a minute then it is about 3 to have him pick them up, put them back in and start over. But like I said for some reason, he loves it.

Candyland is also great. We have played it a couple of time and he is starting to get the 'take turns' theory. Plus it helps learn colors.

I have a memory deck I got from the dollar store and it is still kinda hard for him. He gets he needs to find the matches, but flips over multiple cards to find it. Plus he is a little 'rough' with the cards and tries to bend them when he gets excited.

I also have a Hot Diggity Dog game that will help them to count (audio barking 1,2,3 so not as complicated as 1-6 in chutes and ladders), and colors. Another taking turn game, but whatever bone you land on goes to that dog, regardless of what color dog you are. (So, if you are the blue dog land on a green bone, the green doggie gets the bone YEAH!)

Isn't it so much fun when they can start playing games with you! I love it.

Hungry Hippos takes a lot more hand eye coordination that you'd think. My four year olds can barely play it. When they were younger than three, they liked Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. You could also try the Stretchy ABC Dr. Suess game. It's for ages 4+ but with a few modifications (only use the picture cards not the letter ones) it would be fun for a younger child. Plus, it's really physical so it keeps kids involved.

We got Memory and Hungry Hippos for my son when he was about 2 years, 9 months (Christmas). Hungry Hippos went back in the box - he just wasn't ready for it yet, although we will probably bring it back out soon. He LOVES Memory. He also really like Chutes and Ladders.
