We are going crazy!!! My almost two year old climbs into his 7 mo old sisters crib. I'm concerned about her safety and sleep patterns. she is just learning to sleep on her own. She was doing well with it, but now that he is in the crib every chance he gets; she won't sleep. We are standing at the door watching evrey time now, but thats time consuming and exhausting. We've looked into a tent, but they are so expensive. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Try looking at consignment shops or on craigslist for the tent. I have a crib tent for my son, though it doesn't fit perfectly. It's from my SIL, who got it from craigslist. Good luck in finding one.

could you put a child lock on the outside of the baby's door?

Are they sharing a room? I'd just put her crib in your room. If they aren't sharing a room and he's going in there and climbing in, put lock on the door or a toddler-proof door knob cover thing (I forget what they are called...).

If the baby sister has her own room, you could buy the hook and eye type lock for the outside of her door (couple dollars). Latch it and he won't be able to get in her room at all. And, in case of fire or other disaster, super easy to open and will break away from door easily and once the two year old and baby are sleeping soundly, you could unlock it during the night. Obviously, you'd have to put the lock up out of the two year old's reach.
If they are sharing a room, is there a way to put the two year old to sleep before the baby? If he's asleep before she is, he won't know to get up to get in her crib.

I know the tents are expensive, but they are the only thing that worked for me. See if you have a friend who can loan/give you one (that's how I got mine, check out freecycle, craigslist, thrift stores or once upon a child. good luck

try putting a baby gate on the outside of the baby's room. The door will still open and close into the room.

Check out ebay or yard-sales for crib tents. That's where I found mine. You also might consider moving the older one to his own room - he's going to need one eventually anyway. Then you can just shut the door.

Have you figured out if he's only doing it when she's in the crib or is it the crib itself he's fascinated with? If he just wants to be in a crib with or without her, maybe he needs to go back into a crib for a few months until the novilty wears off. You could get a cheap on for him at a reasale shop, or maybe even a pack and play...those aren't as easy to climb in and out of since there's no bars. Just a thought.
