I have a 23 month old girl, well she has not been eating, or sleeping well and she shows no signs of being sick other than teething. I don't get it, she only wants to drink, but she does eat a little bit. any thoughts on what is going on. please help? Also she woke up this morning and was just crying, and whippering and she would not go back down so my day started at 5:30a.m.

What can I do next?

definately take her in to see the pediatrition. My 16 month old just went through this. She just wouldn't eat as much as se used to. I didn't think anything of it because kids eating habits change from time to time. Then one morning she woke up with crusty eyes. I took her in and she ended up having an ear infection in both ears. There were no signs eather. No fever, she didn't touch her ears, not fussy at all. I had no clue anything was wrong until she woke up with her eyes crusty. aparently with ear infections the tear ducts that normally drain down through the sinuses get blocked so they get backed up and come out the eyes. So, definitely take her in. If there isn't anything wrong, at least you'll feel better knowing she's healthy. hope this helps.

From a mom's perspective, it sounds like your daughter is just teething. Babies react differently to teething. I'm no dr. so certainly check with her pediatrician.

It sounds like teething to me. When my son got his teeth in, they didn't seem to bother him a whole lot. When he started getting his molers...we received every sign (of pain) that is.
You may want to consider giving her some tylonal, orijel and/or another form of pain medication before bed.

Also try giving her soft foods like soup, yogert, apple sauce, etc. Maybe even a smoothie. (You can use a blender for this. Just at yogert, apple juice, and a fruit. You can even try adding peanutbutter for protien and taste similar to P&J.) Pop-cycles may also help releave some of the pain.

Good luck!

Have you looked at her throat? It could also be her ears. Last year my middle daughter started something similar and it ended up being an ear infection. At the time she did not have a history of them, but a day and a half on antibiotics and she was much better. If yo notice she is only comfortable sleeping with her head laying against something, or if she is puling on her ears, that is my guess. When she wakes up whimpering, blow warm air (not cold) in her ear if it helps that is the problem.

She may be teething. Are her checks red, gums swollen? I wouldn't worry about the not eating unless it continues for more than a week. My son didn't eat much when teething. You can try tylenol or motrin, but what worked best for me was the all fruit popsicles. They don't have any added sugar and are only 10 calories-- they help numb the mouth and get some liquids into the body. You can also try a smoothie to get some food into her.

Good luck.

Give it time. Give her as much one on one time as you can.
This time will pass. My son, who is three now, goes through major eating switches. One minute it is all I can do to keep up with his eating, and the next he goes on hunger strikes. As for getting up so early, maybe she was just hungry? 5:30 is pretty darn early though! Maybe she was too wet (diaper)?. What I do (which is bad, I know) is let my son get in bed with me and sleep until 8:30 (so mommy can get some more sleep!) I wouldn't worry though, this time should pass quickly! Good luck to you, L.!

my son is 21 months old and has been acting the same way. i would just set out alot of different kinds of food and let him pick what he wanted to eat. it was mostly snack food and popsciles, but i figured whatever i could get into him was better than nothing.

My daughter had similar behavior a few weeks ago. She ended up having a terrible ear infection. Good Luck.

It sounds like teething to me. But, you might want to keep an eye out for signs of an ear infection, too. Perhaps if she tugs her ear, or something.

Call your doctor to have her checked out. The only real sign my child ever shows of being sick is not sleeping well. The last time he wasn't sleeping well, I finally took him in, thinking they would tell me he was fine and I could let him cry it out, he ended up having strep! It never hurts just to have her checked out. Good luck and God Bless!
