Toddler Bed Transformation

Curious about when to transition my 14 month old girl to a bigger bed. I hate the size of that crib, and would love to replace it with a toddler bed with rails. I wonder how and when to do this. She has made many adjustments in her life with ease, so I was confident until I really pondered the situation. She has really just been walking well for one month now, and is still discovering that there are no boundaries. I would really love to hear some stories or advice (good or bad) about this transition. THANKS!!!!

What can I do next?

I think that when a child turns about two it is for sure ok to move into a tot bed. However for example our case....our Eldest was about 20 months? when we decided to start putting him into a tot bed ( I was already preggie about 7 months along and realized soon after I would not be able to pick Morgan up to put into tot bed, after rpeat c section). I am not gonna sugar coat and say it was not easy...cause it was not. Morgan did not under stand about the bed and was now mobile to move about the room at night. I stuck to my guns, adding a baby gate to his bedroom door ( that way at night if he woke and did not hear..) After about a week, it started getting easier...

I would maybe put up tot bed, introduce tot to the bed, let them sit on it and stuff....then child proof the room ( again for anything 3 feet and under)

hope this was helpful

Well Hi I am a stay at home mom to my son is 21 months old I know i have tryed to make him sleep in a toddler bed but he doesn't want to i would just try it out my husband is a little scared to let him because he does move around a lot at night but try her i have this one friend she put her little girl on a full size twin bed and she sleeped just fine even with out the rails. SO i would say its up to how your little one sleeps. i am trying to get my son use to sleeping on this bed for naps so at night one of these days he will sleep in it.

Hi K.. I'm not sure there is any "right" answer to the question about when to move them. My daughter is 33 months old and we have just (last night) moved her into a toddler bed.
I'm sure we could have moved her sooner, but she never showed any interested in climbing out of her crib or being in anything other than her crib. I know very few moms who have left their kids in this long, but most of their kids had tried to climb out. One book that I read said keep them in their crib as long as you can, especially if they have trouble with sleeping, because it's just one more thing to distract them or make it harder for them to sleep.
I can't really give you the final answer of how my daughter has done since we are just starting, but it's taken her an hour to an hour and a half both nights to fall asleep (usually takes 30-45 minutes). She didn't get out of her crib last night at all, but tonight she did several times. It hasn't been a huge issue, but definitely a transition. As a side note, she also changed rooms, because of a new baby on the way, so it's possible that this has had an effect on it also, although it doesn't really seem to.
I hope this isn't too long and hopefully it will help you out.
- P.

K.,
We transitioned our daughter to a toddler bed at 15 months - becuase she was attempting to climb out. She was throwing her foot over the rail and everything. Thats how we knew it was time! She did really well. Her first night was the toughest for us because it was new and she realized that she could get up and down on her own. But now we lay her in bed, tell her it's time to go night night, and she usually cries for a couple of minuts - but never gets down and goes to sleep. The only difference is that my daughter has been walking since she was 10 months old. We made sure to get her a toddler bed that was only 2 feet high too and she loves it! Good luck!

My son went from crib to bed with no rails at about 16 mohths and never fell out. what i did was put the bed against one of the walls, off the rails in case he fell and he had a tendancy to snuggle the wall. it was a normal twin size bed and i bought siderails for it but when i put them on he would cry, i dont know why but he hated them so i gave it a shot without them and it worked. He is 3 now and still in the twin sized bed against the wall and i think he has only fell out once but since i didnt put it on a frame and had it sit on the floor the fall wasnt hard.
