Toddler Allergy Meds

My son will be 3 in a few weeks and seems to be having some issues with seasonal allergies. Spring and Fall each year, when the weather "changes" (we are in FL after all), he has a few weeks of sneezing and sniffles. No ear infections or fever, just sinus stuff. The only thing that seems to clear it up is Children's Benedryl (recommended by his ped). I was wondering if anyone has had any experience (good or bad) with Rx children's allergy meds. The Benedryl works great, but makes him so sleepy.

What can I do next?

My daughter's pediatrician subscribed her the prescription " Zyrtec" and that works great. Other then that Claritin for kids works great too and that's over the counter.

Hey K.,
My son has the same sort of sinus issues, and we used to use over the counter Claritin for kids, which works pretty good and does not seem to make them tired.

We do see an ENT doc now and she has prescribed DALLERGY which is a prescription allergy med and it has done wonders and does NOT make them sleepy! Hope this helps!

Ask your pediatrician if he's old enough for Flonase yet. My daughter 12 and I use that and it works great.
Most of the over the counter things such as benedryl have the sleepy side effect.
I am all for the holistic or natural remedies as well. You can research them online. Your doctor however, likely won't be for the natural way. Doesn't hurt to ask though.
