Does anyone have any unique ideas for weekend activities for a 2 year old? My husband will be deploying with the Army in December and I want to have lots of fun things lined up for the weekends while he is away! Need to keep my daughter active and busy so neither of us miss him as much!
I have started a list of ideas...
zoo, dallas aquarium, trinity park, Fossil Rim, pumpkin patch in flower mound, etc...but need many more ideas!

What can I do next?

I'm not sure where you live but you might check out the website Around Town Kids. It has activities for the Frisco, Allen, and McKinney area. They have a newsletter they mail with activities and on their website they have a calendar that you can click on each date and it will give a list of events going on in the metroplex. If we don't have anything going on and I need an idea I check out that calendar. There is also a coupon section.
Some other places Sharkarosa, Gainsville has a zoo(can't remember the name), Sci-Tech, and Heard Museum. If you google "pick your own fruits and vegetables" there is a website that will tell you farms that you can go to to pick your own produce. It has a list of counties all of Texas and other states and lists of when each produce is in season. Most of the farms are closed right now becuase of the heat, but many of them will be opening in the fall.
Have fun with your little one!

Pick up a copy of Fort Worth Child next time you are at the grocery store (they are with the free mags like the Apt Guide & Auto Trader) or you can check them out online. Personally I think the magazine is better. They have a list of all kinds of activities, all over the metroplex for each day of the month. The Botanical Gardens & Water Gardens will be good in the spring. Depending on your budget & distance you want to travel, The Gaylord Texan in Grapevine always has something going on. Grapevine Mills now has LegoLand and an aquarium. There are tons of bounce house (JumpZone, Leaping Lizards, etc) & Putt Putt type places. My friend's 2 year old loves mini golf. Sign her up for a class at My Gym, The Little Gym or Gymboree. Find a paint your own pottery place that has toddler times. There are always festivals going on around & just outside of the metroplex. Find one somewhere new & make a day trip out of it.
I hope this helps. Best of luck!

There is a book called "Lynda Morley's Outings & Adventures with Children Ages 1-5" that is good. You do have to look up and/or call to make sure times, prices, and that they are still open but it has stuff for all over the DFW to do. Some free some have to pay to do. I found my copy at Half Price Books cheap!! It also breaks each place into age categories to show you what each age bracket would get out of the place before you go! Check it out!

My DD is 3 and we are always out doing things. I usually get my info from Metroplex Baby, they have a calendar showing local events. We took DD to the Christmas Parade in Dallas she had a great time. Another great place for the Children's Museum at Fair Park
