Sorry if this has already been asked, I've not been on Mamapedia today until now. I've been watching all of the 9/11 coverage and all the emotions of that day come flooding back. In all that I've seen/heard today I've not heard Todd Beamer or any of his family mentioned. I remember his wife being so very proud of him, and she was pregnant at the time. She wrote a book, I haven't read, but I find myself today reflecting about the children who lost a parent and how those kids are doing now. That's what got me thinking about her and the baby she was carrying. Have any of you heard/saw anything on the many kids who lost a parent and/or specifically Lisa Beamer?

What can I do next?

Thank you Tat 2d-to-b-amuse for sharing that. Today, I found myself wondering this, would it have effected us less if we lived on the other side of the country? Would I have such vivid memories of that day if I hadn't seen many family members wondering if their loved ones who worked or lived in NYC were alive, if I hadnt seen people who showed up that day, where I worked saying they watched it from their office windows. I was touched to know that the whole country felt "pulled together" by this tragedy and what an honor that a town so far away wanted to name a school for Todd Beamer. Awesome!

We have a High School in our City named after him....Todd Beamer High School.

We are across the country from where the crashes happen...but i think it was awesome that the kids in our Community stepped up and wanted to name the school after him.

I was curious about this too a few months back. I googled, and I found that she remarried. Apparently there was some scandal over her non-profit foundation, tied with some multi-million dollar house she bought? That's probably why we haven't heard anything.

I remember Lisa Beamer came under heavy fire b/c she was trying to trademark the "Let's Roll" phrase. She may have stepped out of the spotlight b/c of that.

I saw a program on children of 911. There were children on there whose mothers were pregnant at that time but I don't remember exact names.

My daughter lost her father to cancer - not related to 911 but many of the thoughts and feelings those children shared were like those expressed by my daughter.
One of the biggest exceptions were that people bring it up all the time. One girl said each time they talk about terrroist or 9 - 11 everyone looks at her and comments -- her family moved so they did not have to be reminded daily.

I can't find anything specifically about Lisa Beamer and her children more recent than 2002. Perhaps she has deliberately stepped out of the limelight, entirely her right. She did in 2003, along with co-author Ken Abraham, write a book about Todd and her attempts to deal with her grief over his death, "Let's Roll!: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage."

"Dateline" had a segment with Tom Brokaw - she was on there for a very short interview. It was on Friday night. That was the only time I saw her. Maybe she's tired of all the publicity, who knows.

A magazine at the grocery store newstand last night had a front-cover article about the 10 children who were born to pregnant wives whose husbands died that day. Could have been this week's Parade? or Newsweek?

There were children of the victims at the ceremony this morning and I swear I saw a preview of a show including Todd Beamer....but I didn't see that particular show.

I did see a bit of a ceremony honoring one of the fallen Police Officers earlier today... the daughter said she was proud that she was her mother...

I also saw another from a man who's father was on Flight 93... again he said he was proud that he was his father, and lived to honor him.

I don't remember that name specifically.

I am sure there have been others at the different ceremonies.... I just haven't been glued to the TV... it is on in the background, and occasionally I catch something.

They talked about Todd Beamer quite a bit on the special I watched a few nights ago (can't remember which it was). They showed clips of Lisa talking about him, but there was no mention of how their children are doing today. The other family from Flight 93 that was included was the family of Tom Burnett and they showed his daughters, now teenagers, talking about him.

I haven't watched it much today at all. It is sad, but it is too repetetive. Anyway, I thought I'd ask you if you saw People magazine. I saw on the front cover that they were highlighting the kids of 9/11 in the magazine. I'm not sure if the whole story is dedicated to kids of moms who were pregnant during that time or not, or just all the kids in general. Thought I'd mention it.
