To Wait It Out or Not? That Is the Question.

i have a subconjunctival hemorrhage (blood in the white of the eye) caused by rubbing too hard. (allergy season.. itchy eyes for me yay!)
some websites say it will resolve on its own in about 2 weeks. ( just noticed it last night)
without lifting my top eyelid up and looking down i wouldn't even know it was there so its not bothersome and hasn't changed vision any.
i did find a website that suggested a visit to a dr. i have a well check visit scheduled (8wks from now) would you make the (hour long drive both ways) trip to the dr (with horrid wait times in the waiting room) just for this or wait it out and mention it at that well check visit?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

it is already resolving. and i am not bothering the dr about it. than you for reassuring me that i was making a good decision to wait it out.
and i found out that my insurance covers one eye dr vivit a year, but they have select few places that we can go to.. then i drove by a newly built retail strip and one of the places my insurance pays for eye care is going to be having a grand opening soon! so i plan on getting my eye exam once they open.

I wouldn't bother going in for a visit as there is nothing they can do for you. It would be like going to the Dr. because you have a bruise - you know what caused it so there is no mystery there to diagnose and nothing by way of treatment. I wouldn't even mention it at the well visit unless for some reason it hasn't healed by then. But if it's gone a couple of weeks, problem solved!

It will resolve on its own within two weeks.

Why can't you just CALL the nurse line? Honestly, these questions drive me crazy, when in doubt, CALL. There's no need to go in unless they say, come in. Just PICK UP THE PHONE.

My manager had one around Christmas. It went away on its own. If it is not affecting your vision and does not cause any pain, let it heal. If it is not better in a few weeks, maybe see an eye doctor.

I had one of these a few months ago. I didn't even know something was wrong until someone asked me what I did to my eye. I let it heal on it's own.

If you have any discomfort at all, see your doc. But if it's truly just a broken blood vessel from rubbing your eye, it's nothing to warrant a visit to the doctor.

I get them when I puke....aggressively...lol. They go away and don't hurt anything. I would call the doc if you're concerned but to make an appointment and drive that much? Nope, I'd call and ask if there's anything he wants you to do.

I JUST had this happen to me last Saturday (it was my second time in the past year)!!

Just leave it alone and it will go away on its own. The first time it happened it took about a week to go away and this last one took only took a few days.

Sounds like it would be a three hour trek at least with driving and wait time so I would wait until my scheduled appointment. I would mention it to the doc.

you can find websites that suggest whisking 2 eggs with rum and pouring it into your eyeball.

the internet is not your friend.

i wouldn't go to the doctor for this, at least not unless it didn't resolve in a reasonable amount of time.

but to each her own.

I'm 72. I've had this several times in my life. Once it was caused by being in a sandy windstorm. A few times when I lacked sleep. I probably rubbed my eye. They're common. No need to see the doctor. My mom and friends had them too.

Unless it is causing problems, I'd just wait it out.

Call your health insurance company's nurseline. Most big ompanies have them and the nurse will go through a few questions with you and advise you accordingly. Some insurance companies now have Tele-doc where you can skype or facetime with a doctor. Consider both of these options. It is your vision you're talking about.
