I taught my son to sit and pee and he learned to stand with his dad when it was his idea. I didn't want to confuse him when we first started. Now is the time to answer those "gay" comments as "Yeah, probably" and then walk away. You do what you think is best not what other people is cool or not.

I'm sorry but, who the F@#k told you that its "gay" to let your son sit while potty training?! Why would anyone want to put such a label on a small child like that?

I have two boys, the youngest who is working on potty training right now. Both of them started out sitting everytime they went. If anyone tried to pull that kind of gargbage on them would be out on the curb!

Sitting is just plain easier! I'd rather have them sit and hit the inside of the toilet than, having to clean up messes everytime. Potty training is hard enough! Why add on a skill that Dad can show them later when they have more control and are a little bigger!

Hoped that helped!

My son will be 4 in two weeks. When he first began potty training on the portable toilet of course he sat. But as he got bigger on moved on to the big potty we showed him how to stand (on a stool). The sitting down to poop thing just came natural. Let me tell you....he was so proud to be standing like his daddy!!! Throw in a couple of cherrios, and let him aim to get the hang of it.

Good Luck!

I"m teaching my son also and he does both. Sometimes he wants to sit like mama and sis and other times he wants to stand like dad. A man in our church said they taught their sons to sit until they were in school and learned otherwise. He said cleaning the bathroom was much easier that way!

I think most moms teach sitting first because it is easier and more natural since they have to poop sitting anyway. I have been married two time and both my x and current husband still pee sitting. That is the best thing for me, no misses and no clean up around the potty and no seat left up in the middle of the night. My husband says it's more comfortable and that is what he prefers. He is definately NOT gay!!

Hi Brandy,
I tried to keep my son sitting down for clean up purposes. But he really fought the whole idea of training. Finally we had some moderate success. I also thought that I would have to answer less questions since he has three sisters and we have only one bathroom! But after spending the weekend at a friend's house he was so excited to show me is new "trick". He was so proud that he could stand up and make a "waterfall"! It still took him a long time to want to have bowel movements in the toilet. I wish I had heard of the idea to put him on the pot facing backward. I think it would have helped.
Good Luck!

I have a 4 year old son who is fully potty trained now and has been for some time. I started out teaching him to pee sitting down. Then when he had it down I started to teach him about standing up to pee. Its not gay to have him learn sitting down at 1st! Its easier for him! Besides the fact they don't now how to aim at this point anyway!

Good luck with your potty training! I'm in the process again with my daughter! Good times! =)

I taught my son to sit on the toilet backwards because he was so afraid he was going to fall into the toilet. This really helped him be able to feel safe and be able to do both his duties. Hope this helps.
