I need help, my 16 month old is so attached to the bottle. It seemed he started the sippy cup for awhile and now he barely wants to touch it. He freaks out when his 5 month old sister is drinking her bottle, insisting he have one also.

It will be very hard to get rid of it wile your younger child is still on it. I would suggest at about 8 or 9 months replace all the bottles with the sippy cups that have the soft silicone tops that will be ok for both your babies. My son was off the bottle at 9 months this way. But don’t stress the bottle thing haw many people do you know who have issues because they were still using a bottle at 2. In the mean time if you are worried about his teeth they also sell a bottle that has a transition nipple that is more like a sippy cup but still looks like a bottle.

My son was almost 2 years old. We lived by the beach so i told him a story about the baby fish in the sea, We liked to walk on the beach so for a couple weeks i embellished on that story than offered a suggestion on how the baby fish would love his bottle till they grew up as big as him. After a few more discusions he made the decision to give up his prized possesion. We threw it out to sea. It worked!

It will be a week from hell but just throw out all bottles and replace with the sippy cups, they even make sippy cus with a silcon nipple that works great for a starter cup.

Well, as a mom of three, ages 11, 9, and 2, I say give the poor kid his bottle. :) I know a lot of people, some doctors. make a big deal about taking the bottle away at one year old, but, geez, 16 mos. is still a baby to me. Try just giving him only a few ounces, not a whole bottle full. And I would advise never to put juice in it. Juice is really basically sugar water anyway.

Since you are a new mom, I will share one tidbit of advice, 'choose your battles wisely'. You need to determine whether something is a big enough deal to have a miserable day fighting your kid over it. Just enjoy those beautiful babies, they grow up in the blink of an eye.

I would not worry about it. My son was in the same boat and one day just wanted the cup ( around 19 months) Now he loves to hlep feed his lil bro and has no interest in wanting the bottle. I know its hard, but it will come in time, until then just offer it and maybe put a little flavored water ( like juice) in it and leave it where he can reach it...he will just walk up and take it :)

16 months isn't completely out of the question for a child to use a bottle. he may be vying for your attention as he sees the baby w/ a bottle, and as he gets older, i guarantee you won't have to worry about having a first grader on the bottle. he'll get tired of it eventually, especially when he begins to see other children his age drinking from cups! my 4 year old had a bottle till she was about 2. and she's perfectly well adjusted!!

i would say not to stress over it. at his age he doesnt understand why he cant have one and his sister can. its probably really hard for him. give him more time. and i bet he'll lose interest soon anyway. offer him the sippy cup more just to help him adjust and even cut back his bottles to only once or twice a day if you want. but it is not neccessary to completely cut him off at his age. and also, when you offer the baby a bottle and he protests try to keep explaining that hes a big boy and he gets a big boy cup.. although he wont understand.. it might help.. but dont worry, you're not the only mother who has a 16 month old on a bottle. its nothing to stress over.
