I would love to hear from any of you that have suffered from TMJ symptoms and have also successfully treated it. I have had popping in my jaw, dizziness, tinnitus, headaches, etc. for the last few years that have gottn worse over the last 6 months. I recently had a mouthpiece made to wear at night to stop my grinding, which helps, but I still have the headaches and dizziness a bit. Any advice?

What can I do next?

I have had TMJ since I was over-corrected by a poorly trained orthodontist (17 years ago). I have had migraines, dizziness, ringing in ears, headaches, neckaches/backaches, popping in jaw, jaw feeling "stuck." If you live near or around Rockwall I recommend Dr. William Knoderer at the Craniofacial Pain Center (972)722 - 5596. He is GREAT! He takes a non-surgical approach, VERY knowledgeable, very practical and listens to you. He fitted me with a mouthpiece to sleep in and it has helped a great deal. I'm sorry for your pain, and I hope for your healing. Blessings!

I have had jaw surgery for TMJ symptoms, TMJ was not the issue and I new that ahead of time. I do not regret it for a second. My sister found great success dealing with TMJ, and yes it was truly the issue, by seeing a chiropractor. You should talk to your dentist though he may have some insight that would help or atleast be able to point you in the right direction.

C.,

I had TMJ and I had the surgery to correct the problem. At the time I could not imagine going through anything worse. I had my jaws wired shut for 9 weeks. However, now that time has passed and I am done healing it was by far the best thing I ever did. I recently had a friend go through the surgery about 6 months ago. They do not wire jaws shut anymore. It was much easier for him and he felt like it was the worst thing at the time too. You feel very shut off from the world. But he has also said that he would do it again in a heartbeat.

Best of Luck with your choice,

M.

You may want to see an oral surgeon for a consult. My daughter just had jaw surgery for an underbite and TMJ. We use Dr. Edward Ellis in Dallas at Southwestern Medical Center.

I had the mouthpiece, but I just threw it out every night when I slept... so it didn't work for me. As of my last x-ray, my jaw joint is almost gone and so I will need to have surgery in the future.

I usually have okay times, but other times I can barely open my mouth or chew. And I always have headaches/backaches and dizziness. Thanks for asking this question!

I had TMJ surgery several years ago. I had gotten to the stage of not being able to open my mouth more than half way. It hurt to chew and I couldn't bite into anything from the front of my mouth ...pizza, hamburgers and such. My jaw was not wired shut but I did have to be on a complete liquid diet for six weeks after the surgery. I've never regretted it and my results have been very long term.

my son a few yrs back had TMJ and the doctor was able to correct it with a night mouth peiece to keep him from grinding his teeth.
He wore it for almost a yr or two, sorry I don't remember how long it was. it did correct it and he quit grinding his teeth like he was. Once in a great while he will still grind but again it only once in a great while. He was in High school when we had this done and he is now 26.. so you can see it did help him.
It stopped the headaches,dizziness,

Maybe you need to let the doctor know and check the mouth piece to make sure it still fits you like it should.
