TMI Question (Really TMI)

I am 6 1/2 weeks post partum with baby number 2. I had a normal (very quick) vaginal delivery and a stage 2 tear. I needed stitches both inside and out and they seemed to heal very well. But about 2 weeks ago I started to have really really bad pain in the rear after a bowel movement. I was told in the hospital after having my first baby that I had developed hemerrhoids ( I swear I didnt even know til they told me) Those went away/ cleared up after a few months. Then they came back while I was pregnant with number 2 but nothing major at all - I just knew they were there. Well fast forward to about 2 weeks ago - so 1 month post partum. Everything seemed completely healed and there was no bleeding or pain down there and then wham I start getting this insane pain for hours after a bowel movement. By insane pain I mean it feels like it does when the baby is actually coming out. There isnt any blood and I dont see any hemerrhoids. I just had my 6 week check up and she said that she doesnt see a hemerrhoid issue and that she thinks its from the internal stitches. She said that if it persists to go and see my OB (my check up was with my GP). So obviously I will make an appt of it persists but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if it is just stitches that have yet to fully heal and I am maybe irritating it everytime I go to the washroom
My dr said that she could feel something that seemed to be stitches but she wasnt sure - and she said that she really doesnt see how it could be hemerrhoids based on what she saw and felt and how I am describing the pain
Thanks in advance and sorry for the TMI

What can I do next?

Oh sweetie, I feel so bad for you!!

I would not wait to see if the pain persists. I would make an appt tomorrow and get back in as soon as you can. In the mean time, what about using a stool softener (there are plenty of them OTC) to help out? They are different from a laxative, read the label carefully.

I only suggest this because I had a level 4 tear with my first and like you, had stitches everywhere. They recommended "Tucks" pads (I would layer a bunch of them over a maxi pad and it really felt good, kind of cooled everything off down there) and that I continue to take a stool softener daily. They didn't make me "need" to go, it just made going easier. Sorry if my answer is TMI!! :)

Also, drinks lots and lots of water and maybe pop a motrin or two for the pain.

Let us know what the doctor says! Good luck and take it easy!

If this doesn't get better soon, and if they don't find anything with a digital exam, you should make an appointment with a gastroenterologist. You may need a colonoscopy to make sure that there isn't something going on that is not related to having had a baby. Colon cancer is the easiest cancer to catch early on, and if you catch it early, they can take care of it. I know that sounds scary, but I'd rather say it and you rule it out, than for you to not know, and find out too late.

I hope it does have to do with your stitches. But be safe and get an appointment with a gastro doc.

Hugs!

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!!!

I'm sorry you are in so much pain!!! I would STRONGLY recommend that you see a gastrointestinal doctor and get a Colonoscopy done. The preparation for them is kinda yucky - and the procedure is done in twilight sleep - and is over VERY fast. They will be able to see if the stitches ripped or if there is something else going on.

There are many reasons that would cause the intense pain you are feeling after a BM. Please see a gastrointerologist and tell them what you told us. They will be able to take care of you.

Keep a food diary as well...I wonder if you developed Chrones disease over the past 8 weeks? I don't know how fast it comes on. I do know that my friend who has it - has INTENSE pain after bowel movements.

GOOD LUCK!! I hope it's nothing serious!!!

I would start with by using a stool softener until you can get back to the doctor.

I can't imagine why you would see a GP and not your OB for your post partum check up? I would not wait for the pain to persist- just make an appt with your OB and he/she will be able to direct you as to what it is or if you should see a specialist.

Only mentioning this because you mentioned she said it might be from your stitches...w/ my first I had one little bit of stitch that did not dissolve as the rest had done. It caused me a lot of pain.
Just a thought...hope you feel better asap!!!

No TMI you are just nervous and hurt! Anyway, hemorrhoids are itchy, itchy and you can definitely feel them popped out and it hurts when you go to the bathroom. If you are only six and a half weeks after having your baby, then your body is still recovering from all sorts of stuff. If you are finding that it hurts too much get to the doctor pronto, but yes, our insides do a lot of things and one is wreak havoc on us. Your uterus is going back to its original size and it is all about recovery with everything else. Your description reminds me more of the before part, not when the baby actually comes out. I don't remember that being the worst, it was the getting there eeeiii never forget it! Keep it clean and if you and your honey bun are trying to do the coochey coo then perhaps you ought to limit how energetic you are. Oh I'm so careful with my words. If you see that you are hemorrhaging at all again, pronto to the doctor. And congrats!
