Hello Bay Area Moms!!

I have a 5 1/2 month old and a 28 month old (2 years), both girls. I returned to work in October and have been soooo tired. I figure that this is normal, but I have been feeling out of sorts with myself. I get home and by the time I wash clothes, prepare dinner and give baths, I feel like I ran a marathon. I have to wake up by 5 am and have been sleeping way past that nearly everyday. So far, I have not had problems with my job, but before I do encounter any I would like to resolve this issue if possible. Is something wrong with me or is it normal to be extremely tired with two young children? Please help! Any advice is appreciated and will this pass?

You're probably trying to be a full time mom and work full time as well. Now that you ARE working full time, gently let your husband know that you need help in the evenings with the kids since you can't have two full time jobs (doing all of the work of a stay-at-home-mom AND working full time outside of the home) while he has one full time job.

You now have new full-time responsibilities, so your old responsibilities need to be shared.

I agree, get your thyroid checked out asap. If that is the problem then it can be easily treated with medication. Trust your body though. If they check that and they tell you nothing is wrong be persistent. My sister was having trouble with her energy level and for several months they ran tests and said she was fine, but turns out she wasn't. She just ended up having a pacemaker implanted in her chest. Her pulse was dangerously low. If she hadn't insisted on more tests, she would still be feeling horrible today. Being a mom is exhausting, ask for help from friends and family and see if that helps a bit.

hi tired mommy, i'm sad to say i think it is normal. try to get help with dinner and baths. even 1 night off so you can relax after work. it really helps me. my husband has started using the crockpot and we freeze meals so during the week we just pull something from the freezer to defrost during the day and all we have to do is heat it up after work and make a salad. i get to enjoy spending time with my daughter (and #2 on the way) and my husband can see how difficult it is for me to work a full day and come home and have a full night's work as well. good luck!

Same advice I give to everyone with this problem: Have your thyroid checked, just in case you're hypothyroid. If not, waking at 5:00 etc. would make most people pretty tired. But cover that base. If you have low thyroid all the sleep in the world will not make you feel rested.
