Try the book "8 Minutes in the Morning". It is an excellent book that covers both a sensible eating plan with a quick, easy exercise program. It really only takes about 10 minutes! I lost about 20 pounds a few years ago using it.
I was wondering if anyone has advice on losing about 25 pounds. I need to excercise but can't seem to find the time. I would love to have a walking or jogging buddy to help me get motivated to make the time. I work prn in Knoxville and have my boys to chase most other times. I would like to make friends who also work, have young children but want to get in better shape.

I know what you mean about time. I feel there is not enough time in the day!! If you can maybe go to Foothills Mall and walk around for about 30 minutes. I did that a few years and felt much better but now I'm out of that routine. But I can tell you the biggest difference I can tell is when I do not drink Sodas for a while. I lost 6 lbs before just by drinking water instead of soda!!!!
I do not work. But do have my hands full with a 7 yr. old that has Down syndrome and a 5yr. old. I do all my cleaning and appointments in the mornings but they make up for me not working at night when they are home!! LOL Feel free to e-mail me anytime and talk about whatever!!! ____@____.com K.
Exercise is the only thing that helped me loose weight. I did count calories and lost some (7-10lbs) and was walking but that did not give me the results I wanted. Consistency, devotion and not giving up gave me the results I was looking for. Pick 3 or 4 days a week, give yourself an hour and you may have to have someone help with the kids occasionally. Remember this is for you and if you don't take care of yourself first you're not much good to anyone else. I had to make my exercise days the same day every week or I'd make excuses and tell myself I'd do it tomorrow, so get a plan and stick with it. Another thing that did not work for me was exercising in the house. The kids were always wanting something, on the verge of killing each other or I'd think to myself "I really need to be dusting or vacumming or blah blah blah instead".
best of luck
I was needing to start walking and I was at bible study and mentioned it and a lady said I have wanted to walk also , that is how I found someone to walk with, why not mention it at work and you will find that ther is someone there who has the same idea and you will find a walking partner and you two can get a time to do it, maybe even right after work if there is a park near by
Hey, C.! Yes, it is hard to find the time to exercise. I have made it a habit and I still lost track of time and forgot the other day! LOL I also have two little boys at home, 4 and almost 2. I usually can only find time to exercise after I get the boys up from thier naps and fix them a snack. Then I pop in a movie in the living room for them and an exercise tape for me in the den. Because of thier short attention spans, I can only get thirty minutes at the most and that's NOT uninterrupted. It's a little harder when your working. When I was working, I did my exercise tape when I first got home. I had the oldest boy (now 14), who was in school and daycare at the time, do his homework while I exercised and then afterwards we did dinner and bath.
Hope this helps. I could not get motivated without a workout tape. That way your not alone, but yet no one is watching you!
You should check out Curves! It's easy (already a fast-paced, structured work-out) and only takes 35 minutes! Personally, I love it... I'm not one to stay motivated & I lose interest in exercise quickly but I've stuck with this for 6 months. Sure, there are days when I count how many more machines to go but most days I'm surprised I went around 2 circuits so quickly! Many offer a free week before you join. Good luck & most of all, have fun!
I work with a wellness company, Melaleuca. We have a very good program for weight loss that is natural and has good products and daily monitoring. If you wish more information, please call me at ###-###-####.

I was a stay at hime mom and recently went back to work full time. I too was wondering how in the world was I not going to gain weight with most of my time taken up by work and my 2 boys, 2 and 5. So I had to make the time. before I sat down to eat lunch at work i would strap on my headphones,(do they even call them tat anymore?) and walk around my building once. It took 10 minutes but it really helped me getthrough the day and get 1/2 of that 20minutes a day exercise you were supposed to do. then 3 nights a week, (whenever I got both boys in bed at a reasonable time), I would hop on the treadmill or pull out an exercise video, (20 min low impact) and do it. i would have to force myself in the beginning but I found I enjoyed it and looked forward to it after a few weeks. also, plan out your meals for the day. make your lunch as you would make your boys lunch. make sure you include a big salad and 2 fruits with you to snack on during the day. they don;t hit the vending machine. It was a cost thing for me so that is what kept me away from any vending machine. I worked for about 6 weeks and when I went to the dr I lost 7 lbs. I felt as if I didn;t even try becasue I was so hectice but it worked. good luck!
you can lose weight by eating less or different but your body will not appear to have lost that much weight unless you exercise. The exercise is what is going to make your body change shape and be more toned which will appear thinner.
Stay away from anything white: no rice, potatoes, mayo,.... nothing white. Don't count calories, just count the fat grams. If your fat grams are low then there is not way that you will have calories to amount to anything. Eat only what can fit in one fist. If it looks bigger, then you are eating too much. That is ok if you are hungry.... just eat many, many times a day. Just don't eat much at one time. You have folds in your stomach that stretch out when you are use to eating alot. When you don't eat alot those folds go back in place and you get fuller faster.
Another trick is: if you get really hungry or you crave something that you shouldn't eat, imagine it with magets and worms and mold all over it.
A good anytime desert is fix sugar free jello and keep it in the refrig. You can take about a 1/4 of a banana and top a normal sized portion of the jello and then put the fat free spray whipping cream on it. I think it has a total of like about 25 calories. It gets really good.
After you get use to eating this way, you don't realize that you are eating any differently but for a meal, steam broccoli and then put a little spray I can't believe its not butter on it. Any other vegetables steamed is good. If you want meat, get a George Forman grill and put a chicken breast in it and just eat that. You don't have to eat a ton of things at one meal. If you do, it is usually too much to eat. Soon it will seem strange to have more than one thing at a meal.
Drink water like crazy. If you are hungry and you know you shouldn't eat then drink tons of water. I don't like water so I freeze it a little or freeze the bottom and add more to it and shake it. But it has to be very cold for me.
If you add spices that are hot, that boosts your metabolism. Drinking hot tea with your meals helps digest and move all the cholesterol out of your body instead of solidifying it before it leaves your body. In fact a cup of hot green tea at night while watching TV before bed is a good thing. Never use white sugar... hint: it is white. You can sweeten your tea with honey. I drank alot of cappucino and used honey to sweeten it and fat free milk in it.
You really need to make time to walk on a treadmill if you have one. Watching TV while walking will help pass the time. It takes 11 times to make a habit. Make yourself do it 11 times in a row.... same time will be better... and soon it will be a way of life.
Good luck..... and happy weight loss
Hi! I am a mom of two boys, five and seven. I have worked out hours on end & couldnot drop the last 30 lbs. I gained. I finally started doing cardio six times a week keeping my heartrate in the zone it should be. You can get a good h.r. monitor @ Walmart or Target. Then I got the slimfast shakes and drank five a day and LOTS of water. On the weekends I would allow myself one small healthy meal a day. By the way,I did my cardio 45 min a day. I lost 30 lbs. in five weeks and have kept it off now for three months.

I have just started doing Leslie Sansone's DVD called "Walk Away the Pounds". I don't have to leave my house, can choose a 1 mile (takes about 18 min.) workout, or a 2 or 3 mile, if I am really motivated. My kids do it with me, no dance skill is involved, and it goes by so quickly. She also has a Christian version that is called "Walk the Walk" that I got from www.christianbook.com . I am amazed at how much fun it is (I HATE exercise), and it goes by so quickly. I keep a bra, shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers by my bed and put them on when I get up. I do it right away, then take a shower and start my day. My biggest obstacle has always been just doing it, instead of talking about it. (I owned this DVD for a year before I even opened it.) I have also started doing more of a Weight Watchers Core Program diet, which is basically eating healthy foods...no counting, etc. I have alot to lose, but finally have a plan to do so.

Good Morning, C.. When I was looking to lose about 25 lbs., I was a stay-at-home mom with a four-year old without an adult in sight to chat with. So I joined my neighborhood Curves for Women. I went...and still go...three times a week for 30 minutes a day. I lost 46 lbs over the course of about a year-and-a-half and have kept it off for another year-and-a-half. I have made so many wonderful new friends and we have great fun playing games as we work the circuit. It's more like a get-together than exercise, and it couldn't be easier to do.
I've also heard great things about the "Walk away the Pounds," DVDs for ladies who just can't seem to get a sitter for an hour.
Either way, the best of luck to you!!!
I heard this trick somewhere on time management, and that is to write it down, and then stick with it. You simply have to prioritize. Figure out what you do all day (when you work and sleep, how long it takes you to do laundry, clean, cook, play with your kids, etc.), and schedule yourself time to exercise.
Hi C.. Our family just joined the Y recently. They have a great program for families that make less than 60,000 a year. If you make less then that amount then it costs less to join. For us its only $38 a month and that includes 2 hours a day for my son at the nursery while I am working out. They have lots of activites and 2 pools. My son can go swimming with me, or he can go play with little kids while I take an aerobics class.
Good luck!

C.,
I too am a surgical tech and have two kids. My daughter is almost 14 and my very active son is 3yrs old. I work full time in Nashville and try to work out at the Y in clarksville as much as possible. I love there spin class and its great for weightloss, toning, and great cardiovascular, and they also have daycare there. My husband is deployed right now and will return in June, so I want to loose some weight before he returns. I have already lost 12lbs but would like to loose another 10-15lbs before he comes home. If you would like to join me at the Y, just LMK.
I am like you I have about 25 lbs to lose and motivation is so hard. Our family has decided to join the Y to get us all moving more. I also belong to a moms group that does strollercise/walking groups at least once a week. Unfortunately they are not at times I can attend but I know many moms groups do them. I don't know where you are at but the one I found was at meetup.com and I went to my city and they had all kinds of groups listed. My group is in Murfreesboro and we have moms with a little older kids, moms that work pt, moms that work FT from all walks of life and different religions. It was a wondereful way to meet more people and we as a group have even talked about doing a weight watchers type of thing. Hope this helps with both your questions a little.
Hey I know what you mean about finding time and ppl to exercise with! Beleive it or not try the mall. Most mall have a childrens program one day a week. Its a great way to meet mom's. Most malls also have walking groups. I've gotten to know many prople sitting and drinking coffee after our walk. Its inside and before the stores open. Get a good stroller the floors are level and are not bumpy. There is also the added advantages of not getting wet, cold or too hot. I'm not a big shopper but i like the window displays changing almost everyday.
Good luck and have fun!
