So, we did five shirts. I finally convinced myself to use enough dye to have them turn out nice and bright, but the directions are fairly ambiguous. It says "let sit 6-8 hours or more for more intense colors." Okay...how long should I actually let them sit before I rinse them?

Also, after you rinse them out, you're supposed to wash them in hot water...great...it says "Wash separately." Does that mean separately from other clothes (duh, obviously) or separate from each OTHER? I really don't want to do five loads of laundry tonight to wash five shirts...

And any other finishing advice...greatly appreciated! It was a special project for my daughter's birthday, and I want them to turn out great.

What can I do next?

we just did some last week. we let them sit overnight.
for us, we had done 2 shirts the same color so we just washed them together in one quick wash load.

We always let them sit overnight. We would boil pots of water with soap and let the shirts boil in that for a while. (One shirt, per pot.) Then, we would rinse them in the sink under cold water for quite a while. THEN we washed them all together in one load, on hot. That might be too much trouble for you, but we got the most amazing results!!

I think that if they're going to wash the remaining dye out that they're going to do that in the water no matter if they are together or separate, so if you wash them together there's just as much risk of the color bleeding on the other shirts as if they're washed apart. I think they don't want you to wash them with other garments so the excess dye that washes out will get on other garments.

We let ours sit until the next day--so sometimes even 24 hours. And once you rinse them, you can wash them all together. Hope they came out great!

Do it seperate from other clothes, not each other. I either let mine sit overnight or for 24 hours. Good luck. I have always had fun doing mine.
